Position Overview:
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) at OrthoArkansas is an essential member of our healthcare team, offering expert care in both clinical and surgical settings. In this role, you'll manage a variety of orthopedic conditions, providing assessments, treatment planning, and patient education, while also assisting surgeons during procedures in the operating room (OR). Your contributions will help ensure seamless, high-quality care that supports patients from diagnosis through recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed assessments, diagnose conditions, and develop customized treatment plans for patients with orthopedic issues.
- Conduct medical procedures such as joint injections, aspirations, laceration repairs, wound care, and joint dislocation reductions.
- Write prescriptions and orders for medications, imaging studies, therapy, and durable medical equipment (DME).
- Maintain meticulous patient records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and outcomes, using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Complete required documentation, including FMLA forms, school notes, and disability paperwork.
- Utilize prescription monitoring databases and other digital tools to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist surgeons during orthopedic procedures by preparing patients, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing intraoperative support.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are readily available.
- Contribute to post-operative care by assessing wounds, educating patients on recovery protocols, and assisting with follow-up care.
- Educate patients and their families on orthopedic conditions, treatment plans, medications, and post-operative care.
- Counsel patients to help them understand their treatment options and recovery processes, ensuring they feel supported and empowered.
- Partner closely with supervising physicians on complex cases to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Coordinate with the broader healthcare team to ensure seamless, patient-centered care.
- Maintain open communication with patients to foster trust and address any concerns throughout their treatment journey.
- Follow strict safety, environmental, and infection control protocols in all clinical and surgical activities.
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA and other regulatory standards to protect patient confidentiality.
- Conduct sports physicals and other related assessments as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to enhance clinic operations and optimize patient care.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program.
- Active state licensure in Arkansas as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP).
- Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
- Minimum of 2 years' clinical experience; orthopedic experience highly preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Arkansas Nurse Practitioner license (FNP).
- CPR certification.
Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced clinical skills in orthopedic assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Expertise in surgical support, including knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for building trust with patients and collaborating with healthcare professionals.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and a strong ability to manage detailed documentation.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with diverse patient needs.
Software Skills:
- Basic: Alphanumeric data entry, word processing/typing.
- Intermediate: Proficiency in EHR systems and prescription monitoring databases.
