Under the general supervision of the Chief Distribution Engineer of the Electrical Engineering Department, provides the necessary leadership, communications, organization, planning and control for the Technology Engineering section. Performs the role of DG Ombudsman and Subject Matter Expert with internal and external stakeholders regarding all DER interconnections and related activities. Manages project coordination across organizations and identifies opportunities through customer engagement, process improvement and rate design to enhance the customer experience.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Develops goals and objectives for the section. Monitors performance in relation to the goals and objectives, controls expenditures for compliance with budgetary constraints, and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Prepares capital and O&M budgets for the section. Insures that all projects and programs meet all regulatory and compliance requirements as they pertain to system security, cyber security, safety and reliability.
  • Interfaces and works closely with Transmission and Substation Engineering, Substation/System Operations, Electric Operations, New Business and other Company Organizations as necessary to ensure the successful integration of DER systems and technologies with the Companys electric delivery system.
  • Develop a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence among customers and improve value for all our stakeholders.
  • Engage internal departments to provide prompt resolution to customer inquiries relating to their DG projects.
  • Ensures coordination and cross-departmental alignment of DG integration, including but not limited to short, medium, and long-range planning, load forecasting, and operations.
  • Develop and implement process and website improvements that improve the customer experience.
  • Develop alternative technical interconnection strategies and tariff offerings that align with both Company and customer goals and drive consensus within the organization necessary to implement solutions.
  • Evaluate various DG alternatives for transmission and distribution load relief including, but not limited to, load forecast sensitivity analysis, interconnection alternatives, economic analysis, operational considerations and procedures, regulatory permit considerations, implementation feasibility studies, and public opinion considerations.
  • To the extent possible and practical, influence federal, state and local municipal proceedings to ensure outcomes that align with the Companys interest. Areas of influence could include Congressional energy bills, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's standard market design, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's generator interconnection, Public Service Commissions Reforming Energy Vision proceedings, Public Service Commission's retail renewable portfolio standard, Public Service Commission's stand-by rates, Public Service Commission's expedited implementation of mandatory hourly pricing for commodity service, NJBPU EMP and DER initiatives, and Department of Environmental Conservation's distributed generation emission standards.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement efforts with key partners at NYPSC, NJBPU, NYSERDA, and other key stakeholders regarding DER / DG technologies.
  • Develops, reviews, approves and maintains disaster recovery and business continuity plans for all supported systems.
  • Monitors performance of subordinates and provides critical feedback for their development.
  • Creates and sustains a workplace environment that fosters professionalism, honesty, concern, excellence and teamwork. Takes a leadership role in the department training activities, including training of new engineering staff and department employees.
  • Participates in the Companys emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
  • Performs other related assignments as required.


Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related work experience or
  • Master's Degree and 6 years of related work experience
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and 8 years of related work experience
  • Master's Degree Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and 6 years of related work experience
Relevant Work Experience
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently and to work in harmony with other departments and outside customers and regulatory authorities. Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills and the ability to work with all levels of management. Required
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment and render sound business decisions. Required
  • Related work experience with the Companys electric delivery system and project management is preferred. Preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and/or lead teams or projects is preferred. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Must sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within O&R and CECONY service territory, as needed.
