This position serves as Chief of Optometry and provides optometry program management and direct patient care.

Duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides supervision and instruction to staff in administrative, technical and professional matters. Works under the administrative supervision of the Director of Medical Services. Clinical work is performed with considerable professional independence. Provides daily leadership reflecting the adopted mission and core values of the organization. Assumes responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Establishes or approves overall work schedule and determines individual or work group assignments. Develops and implements plans/programs for improvement expansion and/or contraction of patient care services to meet changing patient care needs or staffing levels. Develops care program for Tshootsoo Medical Center and Nahata'Dziil Health Center. Conducts full scope optometric evaluations, diagnoses and prescribes appropriate optometric treatments. Conducts specialty optometry procedures such as refraction, pediatric exams, geriatric exams, ocular surface disease, glaucoma management, low vision evaluation and therapy, and in-office removal of foreign bodies, commensurate with documented training and experience. Provides eye pathology consultation services; and provides eye pathology treatment consistent with experience and granted privileges. Conducts school, pre-school, diabetic, hypertensive, and/or other appropriate specialty screenings. Attending continuing education courses to keep informed of new technology and advances in the optical industry. Acts as Tshootsoo Medical Center Eye Safety Consultant. Acts as principal liaison between optometry staff, clinic coordinator and FDIHB Medical Staff, regarding medical matters and policies. Attends mandatory Navajo Area Optometric meetings continually. Conducts eye related statistical analysis and research. Conducts educational programs for patients, staff, and others. Adhere to FDIHB Medical Staff Bylaws, Personnel Policies and Procedures, confidentiality, and quality to meet professional standards of the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Four (4) years of direct work experience in a clinical setting. Education: Doctor of Optometry (OD) Degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Council of Optometric Education (ACOE).
