The Fleet Manager oversees all operations of the City's Fleet Division, ensuring the effective and efficient management of the City's vehicles, equipment, and fleet-related systems. The role requires knowledge and application of relevant regulations, including NFPA, FMCSA, and CDOT, to ensure compliance and operational excellence. This position is responsible for the entire City fleet, which includes vehicles and equipment used by Parks, Public Works, Police, Fire departments (including heavy fleet such as fire trucks and other specialized equipment), and other departments. The City of Golden has passed a resolution to become a "GoEV City," committing to transition the City car fleet and citywide transportation network to 100% electric vehicles by 2030, and all vehicles within the City by 2050. Responsibilities include acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of fleet assets; supervision of staff; implementation of safety standards; and ensuring the availability and reliability of fleet resources to meet operational needs. The Fleet Manager plays a critical role in strategic planning, fostering innovation, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
JOB SUMMARY
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises 4.0 FTEs in the Fleet Division, ensuring work is assigned appropriately and completed efficiently. Provides mentorship, sets performance expectations, and fosters a positive, team-oriented work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required. A bachelor's degree in automotive technology, business administration, or a related field is preferred. The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in fleet management, including a minimum of two years of supervisory responsibilities. Experience in diagnosing and repairing vehicles, preventative maintenance, and heavy truck repair or relevant schooling is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

JOB SUMMARY
- Provide, develop, and manage long-term fleet replacement and maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate with City departments to forecast fleet needs and ensure alignment with operational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations, including safety, environmental, and procurement policies.
- Regularly review and update Fleet Division policies and procedures.
- Plan, direct, and monitor daily operations, including preventative maintenance, repairs, and vehicle safety inspections. This includes maintaining the car wash, electric entry gates throughout the city, and emergency generators.
- Oversee vehicle acquisition and disposal, ensuring adherence to the City's purchasing and fleet lease programs.
- Maintain fleet-related infrastructure, including lifts, cranes, fueling stations, and related systems.
- Manage fleet management software to track vehicle data, maintenance schedules, and cost analysis.
- Prepare and analyze fleet performance reports and budget updates to support decision-making.
- Assist in developing the Fleet Division's annual budget and capital improvement plans.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure fiscal responsibility in fleet operations.
- Supervise Fleet Mechanics, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth among team members.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency repairs and fleet support during critical incidents or weather-related events.
- Collaborate with Risk Management to handle fleet-related claims and insurance matters.
