Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Mining & Minerals business performs consulting and EPCM services for many of the world's leading mining companies and is executing world-class projects on five continents.

Wood is seeking an Intermediate Civil Engineer to join our Mining & Minerals business group. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is located at our Vancouver, BC office. Key Responsibilities

  • Providing civil engineering design and technical support for the construction and modification of mining and industrial facilities and services, including calculations, design drawing review as well as field investigations
  • Preparing proposals, feasibility studies, preliminary design, engineering specifications, and contract documents
  • Reviewing project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation, including checking for technical quality and accuracy
  • Leading and mentoring junior staff
  • Managing multiple tasks in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Developing and maintaining positive & sustainable client relationships
  • Coordinating and working with project team members


Skills / Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Civil Engineering with eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • A minimum 5 years experience in civil engineering design within mining, energy and/or industrial projects of varying stages from conceptual to detailed design
  • Solid experience in site development, pipe and open channel hydraulics, pump stations, pumping systems and piping (both gravity and pressure) design
  • Tailings / slurry piping design experience is an asset
  • Sound knowledge of various piping materials, fittings and joining methods
  • Experience in storm water management, stormwater runoff calculations, sizing the ditches, culverts and ponds
  • Good understanding of various coordinate systems and survey controls
  • Experience in interpreting and applying geotechnical design recommendations on civil designs
  • Capable of developing creative yet practical concepts
  • Experience in writing technical reports, specifications and in preparing the material take-offs
  • Experience in technical evaluations of construction contracts and material / equipment supply contracts
  • Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills
  • Knowledge of general civil designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards and construction methods
