Job Description

The Director Finance Business Partner (FBP) is focused on driving fit for purpose reporting, analytics and insights across investment performance, cost and exposure to support decision making of Capital Markets and Factor Investing (CMF) department. The successful candidate will bring knowledge of and experience in financial markets, relationship management, agility, and technical/financial knowledge to support the achievement of the department's and CPP Investments' objectives.

Accountabilities
  • Provide an integrated view of investment and business performance metrics by leveraging data, technology and cross functional partnerships across departments, including partnering with CMF's strategy and business management teams, the Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) and others.
  • Provide fit for purpose reporting and financial analysis that is concise, relevant, and draws out actionable insights enabling CMF leadership to effectively manage the business, while also promoting consistency at the enterprise level when required.
  • Coordinate across departments to help ensure a consistent and accurate 'story' throughout all reports and audiences, including leading the preparation of quarterly department level management/board reporting, annual investment strategy reviews in partnership with OCIO, and the CPP Investments' Annual Report.
  • Provide support and direction during the annual business planning process in developing an annual and long-range budget to support the investment and non-investment departments in the execution of their strategy and ensuring alignment with expectations (in the form of budgets and business objectives) prior to the start of the fiscal year.
  • Proactively anticipate reporting needs based on CMF's investment strategy, mandate, or other changes, developing a trusted financial advisor relationship with the department.
  • Partner with Finance and CMF colleagues to develop self-serve capabilities and multi-dimensional reporting and dashboards to adapt the evolving analytics needs of Capital Markets and Factor Investing and the Fund.
  • Promote a culture of high performance, partnership and continuous improvement that values innovation, learning and a commitment to quality and talent development.


Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience (8+ years) in deriving actionable insight from both qualitative and quantitative information, and communicating such insights effectively to senior leaders
  • Intellectual curiosity, strategic mindset, and solid problem-solving skills with an ability to process complex information, draw out key insights, and present that clearly and simply
  • Exposure to performance measurement, attribution, investment risk, and cost concepts and methodologies
  • Superior relationship management skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence stakeholders to achieve strategic goals, balancing a partnership mindset with the need to maintain independence
  • Detail oriented, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to conceptualize and articulate concepts and new ideas in plain language
  • Experience working in an asset manager context such as a global multi-strategy fund, recognized public or private pension fund
  • Good understanding capital markets and hedge fund industry is an asset
  • Knowledge of BI tools or database programming languages (Python, SQL) is an asset
