Organization Summary Statement:

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland is seeking a Program Manager to work closely with the Associate Director and the Director of the Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing (I4C) to set the vision and goals of I4C Outreach as it relates to human resources, budget management, development, supervision, marketing and research.

The Program Manager establishes and nurtures relationships with local, state and national organizations to design and/or improve computing programs and workshops that strategically support diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility within our local K-12 community. Specifically, the Program Manager will oversee the implementation of summer learning experiences and related workshops during the academic year (e.g., 2-3 CompSci Connect two-week summer camps, weekend CompSci Connect computing workshops during the academic year). The Program Manager will engage in marketing and research efforts to analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of our Iribe Initiative Summer Academy and outreach programs. Additionally, the Program Manager supports the recruitment, professional development, and community building of our current undergraduate and graduate student staff who facilitate the K-12 programs.

Other responsibilities of this position include event development, logistics, planning, execution, attending national conferences, and providing day-of-event leadership.

Due to the nature of the work, this position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, on a regular basis.

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift /carry small parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.

Preferences:

Experience working with college students and/or K-12 youth, instructional design including developing and supporting educational programs/courses that meet best practices and accessibility standards is highly desirable.

Computing experience using Microsoft applications (Word and Excel), online sharing tools (dropbox, google drive, etc.), and other forms of electronic communication (Facebook, web page content updating, etc.) is preferred.

Experience managing undergraduate students in volunteer or paid positions is helpful.

Experience interfacing with various other units, similar to those in a campus environment (e.g., scheduling office, WIE, MC2, and Diversity Center) is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years of professional program management experience.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of business acumen to understand key business drivers, organizational communications, and data.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
