The Office of Public Engagement at the University of Illinois is accepting applications for a Campus-Community Compact Director. The Director is responsible for project/program planning, implementation, management, and oversight. This position serves as a liaison and primary point of contact between the university, community partners, community members, internal and external stakeholders, faculty, staff, and students. The Director leads the planning, development, and implementation of projects related to the Campus-Community Compact to Accelerate Social Justice (Compact) and other public engagement initiatives.

The Public Engagement team works to advance the University's public engagement mission by fostering a culture of engagement and supporting mutually beneficial and collaborative University, community, corporate, and government partnerships to address critical societal issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Management
Oversee the Campus-Community Compact initiative and related projects, serving as the primary liaison between the university, community partners, and stakeholders.
Facilitate collaborative work groups to assess/identify needs and priorities related to systemic racism and social injustice in Champaign County.
Work with internal and external stakeholders and partners to develop, implement, and manage projects, activities, and events aligned with Compact focus areas (accessible technology, community health, wellness, and resilience, community relations, economic development, inclusive education, and workforce development).
Provide guidance and support to focus area Program Coordinators to ensure the success of projects and events and their alignment with overall Compact objectives.
Proactively identify and address challenges, ensuring effective project progression.

Project Management
Lead the planning, development, and implementation of projects related to the Compact, which includes creating project plans and timelines.
Monitor initiative progress, respond to stakeholder inquiries, and communicate updates effectively.
Collect, analyze, and report on project performance data to inform decision-making.
Employ project management best practices to coordinate program implementation.

Outreach and Communication
Co-develop and manage the communications strategy with the Assistant Director of Administrative Operations and Communication and external collaborators to promote Compact achievements, events, and engagement opportunities.
Collaborate on creating content for various platforms, including websites, social media, presentations, reports, and publications.
Research, write, edit, and coordinate the preparation of special reports, briefings, and presentations.

Evaluation and Assessment
Develop and implement an assessment and evaluation plan for Compact projects and activities.
Ensure ongoing assessment of the effectiveness and impact of the Compact's activities.
Collect, analyze, and report on project performance data to inform decision-making.

Grant Development and Management
Collaborate with Compact partners and stakeholders to develop and submit grant proposals for sustainable funding.
Provide administrative support for grant preparation, including budget development and justification.

Administrative
Provide administrative oversight for the Compact, ensuring timely completion of activities and addressing challenges.
Plan and execute meetings, special events, and other types of engagement activities, including participant recruitment, logistics, and post-event evaluation.
Build and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Monitor budget and expenditures.
Position Qualifications

Required-
Bachelor's degree
A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training, and/or work experience in program management. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Demonstrated experience facilitating collaborative initiatives involving diverse needs and interests within a higher education or public/community engagement context.

Preferred-
Master's degree in business, science, or related field.
Three years of professional work experience that includes at least two (2) of the following areas:
- Experience in higher education administration, experience in grant preparation and management or experience developing marketing content and presentations
Demonstrated community engagement experience in the local area and/or under-resourced communities.
Experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or a similar higher education institution.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proven ability to effectively plan and manage events.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse, broad-based constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to navigate often sensitive and complex internal and external stakeholders and partnerships.
Skill in planning events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups.
Ability to analyze and develop guidelines, procedures, and systems.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5003 - Program Director position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
