DEA is actively seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Designer to join our Transit and Rail Group located in Tacoma, Salt Lake City, Portland, Denver, Fort Worth, or College Station. As a member of our team, you'll be responsible for construction document production, computer aided design, modeling, engineering, design, and project delivery focused on transit and rail projects. Key Responsibilities:
  • Support our Transit and Rail Group with the production of drawings, layouts, maps, corridor and 3D modeling, and graphic representations of engineering designs using Bentley OpenRoads / OpenRail.
  • CADD tasks to support the development of railroad terminal, railroad capacity, transit and highway projects.
  • Maintain, develop and direct efficient workflows within client specific CADD standards and workspaces.
  • Develop concept plans and construction plan sets including site layout, track, grading, drainage, utilities, and roads.
  • Create design details, schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Collaborate with other project teams, such as structural, architectural, and geotechnical.
  • Prepare quantity and cost estimates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction science or Associate degree in Engineering Technology / CAD
  • Minimum 3 years' experience, industry related particularly with civil design and drafting of rail and related projects.
  • Proficient with 3D design software Bentley OpenRoads / OpenRail and document management infrastructure such as ProjectWise.
  • Experience reading and understanding construction drawings and engineering concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Comfortable working on fast-paced projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and communication tools

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Interest in transit and rail projects
  • AutoCAD Civil3D Proficiency
