The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Supervising Youth Counselor 1 position. This position is based out of Copper Lake / Lincoln Hills schools in Irma, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for security, discipline, custody, control and rehabilitation of youth within a living unitat Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake Schools. LHS and CLS house male and female youth. This position will have primary responsibility for the supervision and work assignments of Youth Counselors and Youth Counselor - Advanced on the assigned shift. Work is performed in accordance with established rules, regulations and policies.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 81-33 with an annual salary of $93350 - $107369, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Remote work is not an option for this position.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have training and or experience in the following:
  • Working with diverse youth populations having educational, social, or emotional problems.
  • Providing supervision, teaching, guidance, programing, treatment and care to adolescent youth.
  • Working in a leadership role (e.g. reviewing work, training peers, answering questions).

In addition to the above, well qualified applicant will have training or experience in the following:
  • Working in a supervisory role (e.g., hiring, report writing, reviewing reports, providing oversight of work assigned, disciplinary, etc.).
  • Working with juvenile offenders in a secure setting and applying security services (e.g., emergency responses, conducting rounds, observing behaviors, de-escalations, etc.).
