The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill Supervising Officer 2 positions throughout the state. The employment register established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies that may occur over the next four months at correctional facilities throughout the state of Wisconsin. Position Summary

This position is responsible for the security, custody, control of Persons In Our Care (PIOC); direct officer post and work assignments; inspect institution departments and functions; assist, instruct and counsel officers in their work; supervise or assist in supervising officer staff on a shift, involving hiring, promotion, discipline and grievance resolution; evaluate officer work performance review and update officers' post orders as changes occur; train or assist training staff in post orders, security procedures, crowd control and weapons; participate in the development, writing and updating of policies and procedures; implement policies and procedures and interpret them to lower level officers and PIOC; deal with PIOC problems as they arise during institution rounds, see PIOCs requesting interviews; make recommendations on work assignments; serve as a member of Program Review Committee dealing with programming and classification of PIOCs; serve on the institution disciplinary committee; conduct disciplinary hearings; notify appropriate individuals and agencies in event of emergency; coordinate security operations; assume the role of Chief Security Officer during evening hours, and in absence of the Security Director.

Salary Information

Pay Schedule and Range: 81-34 with an annual salary range of $97593 - $113068. Currently, an additional $3.00/hr ($6,240 per year) add-on for Maximum Security Institutions and an additional $1.00/hr ($2,080 per year) add-on for Medium Security Institutions is approved for all hours in pay status.

Pay upon appointment for current or former State employees may vary and will be in accordance with language in the Compensation Plan, Statutes, and Administrative Code. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:
  • Performing supervisory or lead worker related activities (e.g. assigning, directing, and/or evaluating work; disciplinary matters, hiring, providing training/mentoring, etc.).
  • Responding to and assuming command in emergency such as physical altercations, medical emergencies, and crisis intervention during incidents in correctional / secure residential treatment facilities, or an organization where you are required to respond to an incident as part of a first responder / volunteer responder organization (e.g. military, volunteer fire department / EMT, etc.).
  • Conducting investigations and coordinating with outside agencies.
  • Establishing and maintaining a professional working relationship with stakeholders.

In addition to the above, a well-qualified candidate will also have:
  • Experience providing formal training, coaching, or mentorship to others in a group or one on one setting (e.g. FTO instructor / coordinator, POSC, ERU Team Leader, Firearms, Security Threat Group, etc.).
  • Experience participating in multi-disciplinary teams and/or serving on committees or work groups.
  • Experience assuming on-site responsibilities after normal business hours, weekends, holidays (e.g. operational decisions, on-call notifications, emergency management, and follow-through considerations, etc.).
