Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities in the Kings Pediatric Surgery Division under the supervision of a physician:

• Assists in surgery and performs minor surgical procedures such as suturing and wound care.
• Direct patient care as well as assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, patient diagnosis, prescribing medications and treatment.
• Provides patient education, assists in the operation of outpatient Pediatric surgical clinic.
• Collaborates within the medical team to provide optimal patient care and communication.
• Records accurate patient notes and treatment plans in the Electronic Medical Record, Teaching/Guidance of staff and other members of the Pediatric surgical/medical team.
• Attends weekly staff conferences.
• Performs related work as required or as directed by the Attending, Chief of Service or Director of Service.
• Takes appropriate precautions while maintaining patient and staff confidentiality.
• Takes the necessary precautions to ensure patient safety.
• Takes necessary precautions to ensure the organization's patient safety goals.
• Participates and assists in tasks and generation of metrics to support quality assurance and performance improvement for the Department of General Surgery and the Pediatric Surgery Division.
• Ready, willing and able to actively participate in patient resuscitation when indicated.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; or
2. Current limited permit issued by New York State to practice as a Physician Assistant.
