JOB SUMMARY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Nursing Instructor located at our campus in Menifee, CA. Mt. San Jacinto Community College District seeks a Nursing Instructor to teach and develop courses in Nursing (Pediatrics/Medical Surgical). This is a full-time tenure track-track academic position. The ideal candidate is student-oriented in their approach and dedicated to student success and will be skilled in generating student engagement in learning and will create welcoming learning environments that are equity-based and culturally affirming. Full-time faculty are typically assigned 15 lecture hours (or the equivalent in laboratory, studio or related activities) of student contact time per week. Office hours and Associate Degree Program activities are also required. Faculty are expected to participate in college governance through Academic Senate appointments to standing councils, committees, and/or a variety of task forces. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, multi-campus, off-campus classes, and online classes.

Initial placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with education and experience, not to exceed step five (5) on the assigned salary schedule. Step five (5) may be exceeded if the district determines an extraordinary need, or circumstance warrants a higher placement. This is a full-time tenure-track academic position. This Academic assignment requires 176 service days per academic year.

While this current vacancy is expected at the Menifee ValleyCampus, applicants may be assigned to any district facility.

The start date for this position will be Fall 2025 (August). Additional openings that become available prior to the end of the hiring process may also be filled from the qualified applicants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Duties:
  • Provide instruction that includes lecture and laboratory classes in Nursing (Pediatrics & Medical Surgical) in accordance with established Mt. San Jacinto Community College District approved curriculum and course outlines and in compliance with California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) curriculum requirements
  • Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance and participation requirements in a course syllabus
  • Effectively teach and communicate with students of diverse backgrounds

Interaction with Students Outside Of Class:
  • Advise students on academic and career matters
  • Assist in outreach and articulation with District high schools, four-year colleges and universities
  • Post and maintain adequate and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
  • Comply with BRN requirements related to advising, mentoring and modeling of professional behavior

Out-Of-Class Duties:
  • Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to District and BRN published guidelines
  • Prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus and in accordance with regulatory agency requirements associated with the Associate Degree Nursing Program
  • Attend and participate in Associate Degree Nursing Program meetings as mandated by the BRN

Professional and Curriculum Development:
  • Maintain currency in field as mandated by the BRN
  • Develop, maintain and evaluate curriculum
  • Maintain and review course specific and program level student learning outcomes
  • Interact with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction and participate in the development of instructional methods, technology, and materials
  • Work with peers in higher education, business and industry to maintain currency of instructional programs

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning:
  • Promote equity and student success through the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Create communities of practice with faculty and staff in other areas of instruction to develop and implement effective instructional methods, technologies, and materials, in purposeful assessment at the course, program, and institutional levels
  • Foster significant, long-lasting learning for students

Interaction with Colleagues:
  • Participate in campus/college governance by serving on campus/college committees
  • Participate in professional development, student and other educational activities in accordance with college policies
  • Maintain written records of interaction and communication with associate faculty and hospital facility colleagues regularly and in accordance with the BRN
  • At all times demonstrate respect for the rights and needs of students and demonstrate respect for staff, colleagues and the teaching profession
  • Comply with ANA code of Ethics, the Nurse Practice Act, BRN and NLN faculty requirements which supersede college and faculty association requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Master's degree in nursing; (attach transcripts) OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing AND a Master's degree in health education or health science; (attach transcripts)OR
  • The Equivalent; OR
  • The minimum qualification as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher; AND
  • Direct patient care experience (within the last five (5) years) in Pediatrics which can be met by:
  • one (1) year of professional experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the Pediatrics specialty; OR
  • one (1) academic year of registered nurse level teaching experience OR
  • its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency in Pediatrics, AND
  • Direct patient care experience (within the last five (5) years) in Medical Surgical which can be met by:
  • one (1) year of professional experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the Medical Surgical specialty; OR
  • one (1) academic year of registered nurse level teaching experience OR
  • its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency in Medical Surgical, AND
  • Completion of at least one (1) year of experience teaching courses related to registered nursing; OR
  • completion of post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing; AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

  • Strong academic preparation in Nursing as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate level coursework
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of Nursing courses
  • Recent (within the last 5 years) teaching experience in Nursing at an accredited college or university, community college experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to diverse teaching methods and learning styles
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in Nursing and the instruction of Nursing
  • Demonstrated commitment to community college education, as evidenced in personal and/or professional experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching (enthusiasm, knowledge of subject matter, student motivational skills and ability to teach students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds)
  • Interest in and/or ability to use relevant and modern technology in Nursing instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to such issues of diversity as academic preparedness, culture, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic circumstances, and disability
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and students
