IT Disaster Recovery Technical Architect
The IT Disaster Recovery Architect leads all efforts in the design, implementation, administration, and security of Disaster Recovery infrastructure and systems.
Collaborates with technology and application teams in identifying functional and technical requirements in the evaluation, analysis, and design of large-scale infrastructure recovery solutions in a mixed environment. Requires overarching understanding of converged systems, technology, and architectures.

General Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate in designing backup polices, recovery strategies and geo-redundant storage solutions to ensure data replication and infrastructure recovery across multiple data centers/cloud regions.
  • Assist in mapping dependencies between different applications and infrastructure components for detailed recovery sequences.
  • Contribute to Tech Modernization Program specific to disaster recovery cloud transformation efforts.
  • Conduct application dependency assessments to identify critical systems and services, ensuring all dependencies are accounted for in disaster recovery plans .
  • Implement policies and procedures for disaster recovery planning for cloud and on-premises solutions.
  • Manage recovery plan development and maintenance activities to ensure plans are current and compliant.
  • Manage the test lifecycle supporting and facilitating testing with infrastructure and applications teams in alignment with DR program requirements.
  • Design and implement cloud-based disaster recovery strategies.
  • Create detailed disaster recovery runbooks to streamline recovery processes for both NYP IT and third party vendors.
  • Collaborate and engage with infrastructure and application teams on discussions and requirements for disaster recovery including experience with recovery of cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Provide project leadership, when needed, for the purpose of planning, directing, controlling, developing, and maintaining the Disaster Recovery program.
  • Lead discussions and educate business and IT partners in matters concerning DR methodology, strategy, practices, roles and responsibilities.
  • Understand and advocate ITDR Program cloud strategy while executing activities with IT teams.

  • Knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure Design & Management
  • Understand that Disaster Recovery professionals can be called in to support test exercises or unplanned outages off regular business hours, as necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable to report progress, status and other pertinent information to partners and leaders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, SharePoint) with an ability to produce professional documents.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts
  • Strong Windows system administration experience
  • Advanced expertise with VMWare vSphere technology
  • Strong Unix O/S administration knowledge
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated ability to secure and harden Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems.
  • Microsoft Active Directory & Group Policy Administration

Qualified candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of related experience. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; ideally, this degree is in computer science. Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential to success. Candidates will need:
  • Bachelor's degree or 5+ years equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of Disaster Recovery experience
  • 5 + years of technical experience
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to an organization focused on continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CBCP/CBCI preferred.
  • ITIL certification a plus
  • Cloud certification a plus
