SALARY RANGE: Starting at $86,700.00 Per Annum

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Temporary (2-Year Term)

LOCATION: Saskatoon

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Youth

Brief Overview:

The MN-S is seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and highly organized Learning Support Specialist to work directly with parents and caregivers of K-12 Mtis students in Saskatchewan. This role is crucial in helping families access the resources, assessments, and financial support needed to support children with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and other learning challenges. The Specialist will also assist families in completing Disability Tax Credit applications, where applicable, to secure additional financial support for their children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Resource Coordination and Advocacy
  • Work with families to connect them with educational assessment providers, mental health resources, and other support services.
  • Facilitate access to appropriate follow-up services and learning resources for Mtis students with disabilities and learning challenges.
  • Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Assistance
  • Educate families on the federal Disability Tax Credit, including eligibility and benefits.
  • Assist parents in completing and submitting Disability Tax Credit applications, providing guidance throughout the process.
  • Community Outreach and Support
  • Conduct outreach to build awareness of the Learning Support Specialist role within Mtis communities and foster relationships with families, schools, and health providers.
  • Act as a liaison between families and service providers to ensure culturally sensitive and effective support.
  • Program Development and Reporting
  • Track program outcomes, including the number of students served, types of support provided, and feedback from families.
  • Prepare regular reports for the Director of Youth and participate in program development to continually enhance service delivery.
  • Develop framework for the program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of educational and psychological assessment processes and resources.
  • Strong knowledge of Mtis culture and values.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work collaboratively with families and service providers.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial disability support programs, especially the Disability Tax Credit.
  • Highly organized, with strong time-management skills and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Education with 10+ years working on the frontlines of education in exceptional needs.
  • 5+ years experience working in an advocacy role
  • 10+ years of experience in special education roles, with an emphasis on learning disabilities, ADHD, and Autism, and exceptional needs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, with a strong understanding of Mtis culture and values.
  • Expertise with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, and other common learning challenges.
  • Non-profit advocacy work in this field would be considered an asset.

Additional requirements:
  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the vulnerable sector.
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver's license and access reliable transportation
