Role and Facility Information
Northern Health is seeking a Family Physician for Masset on beautiful Haida Gwaii! The selected candidate will work within a shared practice model with an expected schedule of 4 weeks on/4 weeks off.
Along with clinic work, family physicians work in the Emergency room and cover Hospital in-patients. Call is 24 hours, with the following morning allocated to walk-in appointments and the afternoon off for post call. Weekend call is from Saturday morning to Monday morning with the rest of Monday booked off. The ER is low volume but frequently challenging given the remote location.
Masset is situated along the shoreline of Masset Sound on Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, and is the largest village on the island. Major industries are logging, fishing and tourism. Masset provides services for a larger rural area with a population near 2,300 including Tow Hill (unincorporated) and Old Masset (IR). Incorporated in 1961, the Village of Masset (pop. 1,000) is the oldest of the islands municipalities.
The Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital is an eight bed facility (four acute and four long-term care) with Emergency. Services provided are:
General medicine
Community Health
Public Health
Mental health

As well, Masset is known for its endless hiking trails, magnificent beaches and exceptional birdwatching opportunities. Vacation Leave 6-8 weeks annually including education May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including: Retention Premium 30%% Retention Flat Fee $52,318 Relocation Funding Available $9,000-15,000 Recruitment Incentive $20,000 Other Benefits/Incentives Relocation: $15,000 if relocating from outside of Canada; $12,000 if relocating within Canada but outside of BC; $9,000 if relocating within BC. Estimated Yearly Remuneration does not include Retention Premium and Flat Fees.
