The New Mexico Department of Transportation's (NMDOT) Central Regional Division (CRD) provides engineering, design, and project development services to District Three (3) and District Six (6) in order to provide the central region of New Mexico with safe transportation services while implementing innovative design.
The Central Regional Division also acts as a liaison between Districts, Local Entities, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), providing technical assistance to ensure local government project design plans can be constructed.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to provide a NM Licensed Professional Engineer to work on behalf of NMDOT CRD as a Project Development Engineer (PDE) to support the administration of construction program funds for NMDOT's District Three (3) and District Six (6).
How does it get done?
This position as a PDE is directly responsible for the design, development, and submittal of multiple Construction Project Plan Sets and Production Packages as assigned by the Region Manager. The PDE is responsible for using their professional engineering judgment, knowledge and experience to seal elements of the production package, including the construction plans and engineer's estimate. The PDE manages an internal design squad and assigns daily tasks to said staff. This position also coordinates with all the NMDOT support groups (including the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), Procurement and Legal sections) to ensure each project complies with the NMDOT and FHWA policies and procedures.
Who are the customers?
Central Design Region, Districts Three (3) and Six (6), and the traveling public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should have experience in the following:
* Familiarity with roadway design specifications, codes and manuals adopted by NMDOT.
* Understanding of NMDOT Standards Specifications for highway and bridge construction.
* Ability to review, analyze, and verify project information (i.e. cost estimates, construction quantities, as-built plans etc.)
* Producing construction design plans with the assistance of AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
* Supervising and managing employees.
* Managing and coordinating complex projects.
* Conducting public meetings.
* Understanding of The State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
* Construction-phase services and inspections.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and five (5) years of engineering experience, one (1) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Extensive use of personal computer. Travel throughout the
state and occasional out of state travel may be required.
