Description
Boulder County Public Health Department is seeking to hire an Environmental Health Specialist I (EH1) or II (EH2) - Food Safety. This position works in the Food Safety Program and performs a variety of duties to help prevent the spread of disease, mitigate health risks, and ensure compliance with all food safety rules and regulations.
This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.This position will work remote and out of 3450 Broadway St., Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt.
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
EH1 Hiring Salary Range: $59,592.00 - $72,654.00 Annually
EH2 Hiring Salary Range: $68,976.00 - $84,138.00 Annually
Tentative Hiring Timeline:
New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

Examples of Duties
Enforces federal, state, and local regulations and ordinances related to assigned areas; works closely with lead staff in selecting appropriate methods and procedures to use in resolving specific problems; receives training in and performs some duties in the enforcement of regulations and ordinances outside of assigned specialty. Performs plan review of newly constructed and remodeled retail food establishments. Conducts routine inspections within area of specialty, such as food establishments; issues permits and licenses where appropriate; works with operators and the public in resolving problems of compliance; keeps supervisors informed and receives assistance from supervisors in non-routine problems. Performs routine investigations of public complaints related to assigned specialty; may perform other investigations as assigned by supervisor. Reviews and updates assigned file records to ensure accuracy and completeness; prepares a variety of reports, correspondence, and articles for official use and public information. Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and training sessions. Responds to incidents that may result in exposure to disease, epidemiological investigations related to foodborne illness, hazardous materials, or toxic substances. Develops and conducts educational classes and presentations for clients, industry, and the public. Designs educational and training materials and develops outreach strategies for target groups in the area of food safety. Fosters teamwork and open communication among staff; participates in team-building activities. Performs other duties, as assigned. May be reassigned during emergency situations
