The Role

Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, the Controller will be primarily responsible for overseeing all financial accounting, including the supporting systems and processes to create and maintain strong internal controls.

The focus of this role is to oversee the financial governance of the business for a rapidly growing company, through timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis. The Controller will be responsible for interpretation of the financial information in order to assess operating results in terms of profitability and performance. The successful candidate must be comfortable in a rapid decision-making environment and will understand the factors that drive the changes and potential growth within the business.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all the financial accounting for the assigned clinic portfolio through to trial balance including accounts payable, general ledger, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and payroll
  • Implementing and maintaining financial controls and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Assist with audit planning and supporting both internal/external audit requirements
  • Supporting M&A accounting activity as required
  • Review and approval of transactions including: large/unusual transactions prior to submission to outsourced partner
  • Monitoring KPIs, evaluating financial risks & providing insights to support on decision making
  • Supporting on escalations regarding outsourced provider according to escalation matrix
  • Provide support for technical advice/correct accounting treatment to outsource partner
  • Review the quality of balance sheet and other reconciliations
  • Review the P&L and related analysis
  • Complete period-end tasks and meet all reporting deadlines
  • Write local policies & procedures
  • Supporting local reporting requirements
  • Maintain consistent communication with Director of Finance concerning emergent situations that may pose a financial risk and make recommendations concerning potential problems
  • Projects and providing support for transformation initiatives
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned from time to time

Background, Experience and Qualifications
  • 10 years of relevant work experience with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance University Degree
  • Professional designation - CPA (CGA, CMA or CA)
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and ASPE
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.); advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, etc.); capable of working with large data sets
  • Proven ability to influence change and effectively lead projects; collect and analyze data; develop and communicate recommendations
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Sound understanding of audit process and methodology
  • Strong risk management advisory abilities
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and meet deadlines
  • Ability to analyze business processes and maintain internal controls
  • Experience using Netsuite is an asset
