About the work environment:

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start & end times.

We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto or Vancouver office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About the qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field is required. A master's degree or professional certifications such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or similar qualifications will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management within a Financial Services organization.
  • Proven experience in managing regulatory relationships and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Extensive experience in risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and managing projects in a high-pressure environment. Interest in developing others.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and regulatory changes affecting the financial industry.
  • Strong understanding of operational, market, credit, and enterprise-wide risk management frameworks.
  • Experience in developing risk policies, procedures, and governance structures.
  • Ability to design and implement risk metrics and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity, with a commitment to compliance and ethical behavior in all business practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing reports and presenting to audiences at the executive level.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the regulatory risk management processes.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulators to facilitate effective communication and timely resolution of regulatory issues.
  • Conduct comprehensive business management and analysis.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and emerging trends, interpreting their impact on the bank's operations and advising senior leadership on necessary adjustments.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory risk exposure, advising on risk mitigation strategies and ensuring that risk management practices align with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate regulatory examinations responses including audits, and inspections; ensure that all requests from regulators are addressed promptly and comprehensively.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Legal and Compliance to ensure the bank's policies and procedures meet or exceed regulatory expectations.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and thorough reporting to regulatory agencies, including the preparation and submission of required filings and reports.
  • Maintain detailed records of communications with regulatory bodies and audit findings.
  • Assist with the team coordination for the Risk Leadership team management committee, including agenda setting and reporting.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the risk workplan under the guidance of the Chief Risk Officer and Management Team.
  • Support management in decision-making related to regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Prepare briefing materials for senior management and the board of directors on regulatory matters, risk assessments, and changes in regulatory landscape.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting risk reports to management and the board.
  • Manage, motivate and develop direct reports through ongoing performance development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Compensation:

Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. In addition, we are pleased to offer employees both group benefits and the option to participate in our RRSP matching program, beginning the first day of employment. Salary for this position will vary between $140,000 to 155,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses. As part of our recruiting process, shortlisted candidates will be asked their salary expectations for this position.
