Viewpoint is currently seeking a Director of Facilities. The Director of Facilities assures the reliable operation and safe occupancy of Viewpoint's 40-acre campus by keeping the school's buildings and building systems, classrooms, offices, performing arts and athletics facilities, residences, roadways, walkways, grounds, and other physical assets in top working order.

Primary Responsibilities and Areas of Focus:
  • Building a strong facilities & operations team, equipped with the expertise and work ethic needed to complete required job duties.
  • Intentionally cultivating a community of reliable & responsive vendors.
  • Effectively mentoring and managing maintenance technicians, the director of custodial services, and the members of other building & grounds teams.
  • Implementing robust preventative maintenance programs and a comprehensive, schedule-based routine of inspection, cleaning, painting, filter replacement, carpet replacement, light bulb replacement, etc. to remain ahead of maintenance and repair needs and reduce likelihood of breakdowns.
  • Rapidly addressing any breakdown or failure to the school's electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire alarm & suppression, or other building systems. Whenever they might occur.
  • Assuring maintenance requests are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Overseeing the planning and implementation of capital improvements, renovations, and major repair/reconstruction efforts.
  • Leading the on-time and on-budget implementation of facilities projects.
  • Developing facilities-related policies & procedures.
  • Setting clear goals and establishing clear priorities.
  • Budgeting and cost control.
  • Vendor management.
  • Regulatory compliance (environmental, building code, etc).
  • Invoice approval after validating quality of work performed.
  • Leading staff training to improve work quality, ensure safety, or stay in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.

Essential Qualifications:
  • A combination of education, training, and experience providing suitable preparation for success in the role.
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations in which at least five years have been in a supervisory capacity, preferably at a school or similarly complex organization.
  • Proven familiarity with the diagnosis and repair of problems commonly encountered with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, with building codes, and with health and safety regulations.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills are required. Demonstrated capacity to clearly express ideas in English, both orally and in writing. Spanish language capabilities a plus.
  • Advanced computer literacy, skilled and comfortable in the use of email, spreadsheets, presentation software, other Microsoft and Google office applications, and ability to work with work order database systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with architectural plans and specifications.
  • Ability to be on campus when work needs to be done, including evenings and weekends, or in case of emergency.
  • Extensive experience with the selection, hiring, and oversight of vendors and service providers.
  • Construction management experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements of the Role:
  • Must have a current, valid California driver's license and a clean driving record, as driving is an essential function of this role.
  • Must possess a respectful and courteous manner in dealing with colleagues and with the school community, including during times of stress or when urgent action is necessary.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time, frequently climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain and hillside pathways, reach, lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop, climb ladders, work at height, use power and manual tools, use close and distance vision, work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.


Compensation: Anticipated base compensation is $125,000 to $175,000 depending on experience.
