The City of San Jos Housing Department is a leader in the production of affordable housing. Its mission is to strengthen and revitalize our community through housing and neighborhood investment. The Housing Department has an operating budget exceeding $20 million, annual investing over $200M in homelessness and housing, and 112 employees.
Position Duties
The Housing Department is currently seeking to fill one full-time Assistant To The Director vacancy.
Salary range for this classification is $120,010.80 - $146,284.32 annually.
This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.
Under direction of the Director, provides duties of an Assistant to the Director in the areas of policy, systems implementation, cross-divisional project management, and reporting to stakeholders. Specific duties and tasks include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited college or university in business or public administration or a closely related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in public or business administration/management, including one (1) year of experience at the level oi Senior Analyst or higher.
Licenses or Certificates: Possession of a valid California driver's license may be required.

- Coordinates projects and special studies assigned by the Director;
- Works closely with the Housing Department's Leadership Team to facilitate and streamline administrative processes and the development of new policies;
- Reviews departmental procedures and develops appropriate modifications for approval, including the department's policies and procedures;
- Develops and recommends new and revised procedures that influence departmental operations and impact;
- Oversees department deadlines, coordinating cross-divisional assignments that involve department leadership;
- Represents the Housing Department in developing, negotiating, and maintaining key partnerships to advance the mission and initiatives of the Housing Department;
- Manages the development of department reports and communications to internal and external stakeholders from diverse racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically backgrounds;
- Performs other related work as required.
