The Biologics Manufacturing Center (BMC) Inc. is a new biomanufacturing facility created in response to the pandemic. A not-for-profit organization, the BMC aims to better meet the biopharmaceutical needs of Canadians. We are looking for an Assistant Controller who will contribute to the sound financial management of the organization through a unique combination of responsibilities, ranging from day-to-day operations to more strategic mandates. This role is part of a small team and reports directly to the CFO. Our accounting and finance department is actively working to consolidate its foundations, and the incumbent will play a key role in this evolution.

The Assistant Controller will have the following responsibilities:

  • Financial closing and analysis
  • Produce month-ends, including accruals and complex entries.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly comparative and forecast financial statements.
  • Monitor budgets, analyze variances and participate in the financial forecasting process.
  • Produce management analyses and reports, including monitoring performance indicators.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Accounting operations and control
  • Perform accounting transactions, balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance of operational transactions and proper management of inventories.
  • Manage the supplier payment approval process and coordinate payment production.
  • Monitor overdue accounts and direct payment transactions.
  • Produce regulatory and government declarations.
  • Audit and compliance
  • Prepare audit file and collaborate on internal and external audits.
  • Support the implementation of procedures and new internal controls.
  • Ensure that accounting documents are up-to-date and accurate (accounts receivable and payable, bank transactions, periodic reports).
  • Continuous improvement and special projects
  • Participate in the optimization of accounting processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects for the department

  • You have a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • You have at least 5 years' experience in accounting, including 3 years with the full accounting cycle.
  • A combination of relevant training and experience may be considered.
  • Your career path has enabled you to develop your skills in accounting analysis and controls as a result of the increasing complexity of the responsibilities entrusted to you.
  • You have an advanced command of MS Excel.
  • You can easily communicate in French with employees and local vendors.

The BMC, a key player in Canadian biotech production

The BMC is a new facility in the heart of Montreal, completed in June 2021. It supports the growth of the country's biologics production capacity, ensuring that vaccines and other related products can be manufactured safely, right here at home.
