Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing/directing SCDC emergency preparedness program, Emergency Action Center (EAC), Central Bus Terminal (CBT), Palmetto Richland Hospital (PRH), Agency Search Team (AST), SORT, RRT, SITCON, medical transport team and Broad River Gate Operation.
  • Assist the Director of Security in directing SCDC in all security matters to include: security audits for purpose of assisting institutional managers in enhancing security operations, identifying opportunities for improvement as well as identifying staffing issues and policy/procedure compliance.
  • Assist in identifying, purchasing, and managing all security equipment for the agency.
  • Assist/ensure all positions under security umbrella maintain current certification in their specific fields of discipline.
  • The incumbent is on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  • The incumbent will be assigned an emergency vehicle to immediately respond to and assist in coordinating efforts relating to disturbances and/or emergencies within the institutions.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and relevant experience in administrative services, public administration or business management.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
  • A Bachelor's Degree and eight (8) years of experience in a correctional environment of which five (5) years must be in a management position;

OR
  • An associate degree and ten (10) years of experience in a correctional environment of which seven (7) years must be in a management position;

OR
  • A high school diploma and twelve (12) years of experience in a correctional environment of which nine (9) years must be in a management position.

Must be certified or obtain certification within six (6) months of entry into the position. Will receive training at the SC Department of Corrections Training Academy which is sanctioned by the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
