Pay and Benefits: King County has an amazing full-range benefit package and candidates who are determined to be fully-qualified at the Journey level will start at 90% of the pay scale with an additional shift differential being paid to those working second and third shifts. Our starting Journey Level hourly rates are as follows:
Safety Sensitive Position: This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment, and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.
Recruitment and Vacancy Details: This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) 17-month Term-Limited Temporary (TLT)/Special Duty Assignment (SDA) positions in the Transit Electronic Technician classification. These initial vacancies are temporary in duration, but are full-time, benefit eligible, and may have the opportunity to covert to career service (permanent) positions, when possible. Vehicle Maintenance invests heavily in its staff's development, and SDA/TLT positions give candidates a chance to gain knowledge, skills, and experiences that can be applied to future opportunities. An eligibility list of qualified candidates may be created to fill future Electronic Technician positions as they become available. If created, the eligibility list would be active for 12 months from the establishment of the list and utilized at the hiring authority's discretion.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in a transit base setting (indoors in a shop as well as in the yard on buses). Some work is performed outdoors or in shop areas that do not have regulated temperatures. Job Duties

- Diagnose propulsion malfunctions on trolley coaches; remove and replace defective electrical and electronic components and wiring as appropriate.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions on coach ancillary/peripheral systems and other transit and transit-related electronic equipment.
- Service and maintain analog and digital control systems; troubleshoot solid-state electronic systems; fabricate and install special electronic testing systems.
- Fabricate, retrofit, and update specialized electronic equipment and devices to enhance and extend transit coach performance.
- Perform component-level troubleshooting by interpreting and reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to identify and repair system defects and malfunctions.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance (PMs) inspections; make adjustments and alignments to optimize transit coach performance as needed.
- Set up and operate various types of common electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, function generators, chart recorders, insulation testers, data loggers, computers, and other specialized test equipment to troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning electronic equipment.
- Ensure proper calibration of test equipment is accomplished through compliance with established preventative maintenance schedules, practices, and procedures.
- Assist other job classes, such as mechanics, with electrical troubleshooting.
- Maintain records of completed calibrations, PMs and repairs, time worked, and materials used; input and extract data using an automated information maintenance management system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Skilled in the use of personal computer office software programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to collaborate with others and work effectively as part of a team, as well as work independently.
- Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

- Skills, knowledge, or experience related to repairing and maintaining closed-circuit television (CCTV.)
- Experience working around high voltage, in accordance with applicable safety legislation and guidelines, to effectively measure high voltages (700 volts) with hand-held test equipment.
Necessary special requirements:
- Must be willing and available to work varying shifts on weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Metro's Vehicle Maintenance Division operates 24 hours, 365 days per year- so the position being filled may occur on any shift.

- Commercial Driver's License Requirements: Within 90 days of hire, a candidate must be able to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement and the air brake restriction removed.
- Candidates without a current CDL will be required to obtain a Class B Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) with a passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed before receiving a formal offer. After hire, King County Metro Transit will provide you with paid training on our equipment, so you can obtain the required Class B CDL.

Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed to determine if candidates meet the qualifications and requirements posted within this job announcement. The most competitive candidates presenting evidence that they meet or exceed the qualifications noted will be invited to participate in a one-day testing event. Those passing the required test will be invited to participate in a same-day panel interview directly after testing. Due to the nature of the tests, all testing MUST be conducted in person. All invited candidates must participate on one of the available dates.
- One-day testing event: In-person in Tukwila, WA-- tentatively scheduled for Wednesday 3/12/25. All invited candidates must participate on one of the testing dates listed. Candidates have up to two hours to complete the written multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank knowledge test. Interviews will be offered to candidates who pass with satisfactory test scores.
- Same-day Interviews: After a brief break, a 30-minute panel interview will directly follow the testing. You will be allowed to preview a printed copy of the interview questions for 15 minutes prior to your interview, and any notes you make on the question preview document may be referenced during your interview.
The candidates with the most competitive combined testing/interview scores will receive a conditional offer of employment that is contingent upon completing any necessary safety-sensitive pre-employment process (PEP) steps; including:
Once the selected candidate(s) completes the PEP: a final offer will be extended and an official start date will be determined. Our goal is to have the hired candidate(s) start by April 14, 2024, but this will be determined by how quickly the candidate completes the PEP steps listed above. Candidates hired from an eligibility list at a later date will have their pre-employment process begin at that time.
