The Division of Adult Institutions (DAI) is currently recruiting to fill an Assistant Administrator (Correctional Services Manager) position. This position will be headquartered at the DOC central office in Madison, WI.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for administering program planning and policy development and implementation of programs for the division; administration of program planning, policy development and implementation of institution services for the adult institutions (e.g., client treatment, religion and employment; community service; translation; liaison regarding foreign nationals); management and supervision of staff to assure effective utilization of division resources; evaluation and modification of programs for the division; performance as Administrator or Assistant Administrators in the absence of these staff; and implementation of Affirmative Action/Civil Rights Compliance plans within areas of responsibility and in compliance with federal and state laws. This position directly supervises Wardens and Bureau/Office Directors.

Salary Information

The starting pay is between $72238 and $129417 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. The pay schedule/range is 81-01. A 24-month career executive trial period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

Shift: Monday- Friday 8am-4:30pm

This position has the flexibility of a hybrid in-office and remote work schedule up to 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Supervising staff such as: hiring, assigning/directing work, completing performance evaluations, participation in disciplinary process etc.
  • Collaborating with Internal/external stakeholders in order to enhance service delivery.
  • Managing multiple areas and priorities simultaneously.
  • Collaborating and working with criminal justice, community, public and other agencies.

In addition to the above, well qualified applicant will have experience:

  • Management and/or supervision in a correctional setting (i.e. security protocols, treatment programming, healthcare, etc.)
  • Managing and making decisions related to administrative functions (strategic planning, compliance, budget, operational oversight, etc.)
  • Designing and leading organizational change.
