Location: Maui, HI

Salary Range: $82,000 - $90,000 plus Medical, Dental, and vision benefits (see below for more details)
YouthLine, a national peer-to-peer youth crisis line and youth development organization, is launching on Maui - and we are looking for a dynamic Hawai'i Director to help lead, collaborate, grow and develop YouthLine to play a critical role in the fabric of support for youth mental wellness in Hawai'i.
The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about youth and youth mental health, has a strong background in mental health, and demonstrated leadership and commitment to community collaboration and partnership.
About the Organization: YouthLine is a service of Lines for Life, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.
YouthLine is a national peer youth-to-youth crisis line providing support, help, resources and crisis intervention to youth. We reach nearly 25,000 youth in crisis every year with youth volunteers working in four call centers - and we are adding a new location on Maui. YouthLine works with teen and young adults providing training, mentorship, support and supervision to youth volunteers who provide support on the crisis line. YouthLine focuses also on mental wellness and destigmatization through prevention education and outreach, providing school and community outreach to raise awareness and destigmatize reaching out for help.
Position Overview: This new position will help us shape and launch the new YouthLine on Maui, and will lead YouthLine Program's statewide initiatives in Hawai'i. The first project for the Hawai'i Director will be launching YouthLine on Maui - including working with community partners, identifying a location for YouthLine, outreach and engagement with youth, parents and community members, and recruiting and ultimately supervising youth volunteers to work on the YouthLine crisis line. As we grow, the Hawai'i Director will help recruit and then supervise a small team to grow and develop YouthLine services on Maui and across Hawai'i. The YouthLine Hawai'i Director works closely with YouthLine leadership and community partners to help ensure that YouthLine fits seamlessly into the fabric of support for youth in Hawai'i. The Director is also responsible for ensuring YouthLine Hawai'i maintains the high clinical and operational standards of excellence that are central to YouthLine's success. This position will supervise an Education and Outreach Manager and two Clinical Supervisors. This position will be a Director role in Hawai'i represents both YouthLine and Lines for Life in statewide efforts related to youth mental health and youth suicide and crisis intervention and a Deputy Director on the YouthLine National Leadership team supporting the nationwide efforts.

YouthLine Hawai'i Director Responsibilities:
- Lead the launch of YouthLine in Maui County, in collaboration with local partners and the YouthLine team
- Help set strategic direction for YouthLine Hawai'i and lead program development and strategic planning for Maui County programming.
- Work closely with partners on Maui and across Hawai'i to foster relationships and ensure close collaboration
- Lead outreach and engagement programming to reduce stigma around mental health, build mental health and wellness skills, and promote the YouthLine.
- Lead efforts to promote the YouthLine service as a resource for across Maui County and all of Hawai'i through media campaign, outreach and public promotion.
- Lead efforts to recruit, train and supervise and support youth volunteers and interns.
- Manager and supervise YouthLine Hawai'i team as we grow, likely to include an Education and Outreach Manager and one ore more Clinical Supervisors, plus any contractors engage to support.
- Manage budgets and provide fiscal oversight and accountability for funds allocated to YouthLine Hawai'i activities, meeting the needs and standards established by the YouthLine National Director and Chief Finance Officer.
- Participate in the selection of candidates for vacant YouthLine Hawai'i positions in collaboration with the Human Resources department and additional members of YouthLine leadership.
- Actively manage and support YouthLine Hawai'i employees, including providing clear guidance and accountability, supporting professional development, and working with HR to ensure strong performance management and compliance with employment laws, the collective bargaining agreement, and organizational policies.
- Meet regularly with direct reports, including reviewing and approving timecards, monitoring and assessing performance of self, other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective actions. Complete annual performance reviews.
- Meet with parents/guardians of YouthLine volunteers when questions or concerns arise.
- Stay up-to-date on demographics, risk factors, relevant legislation, and opportunities for the YouthLine to support teens in the state of Hawai'i.
- Collect, create and analyze reports for call and youth trends from the YouthLine Hawai'i call center.
YouthLine National Deputy Director Responsibilities:
- Regularly attend and actively participate in Lines for Life leadership and YouthLine national team meetings.
- Provide input in developing the YouthLine National Strategic plan.
- Collaborate with Portland and Central Oregon Directors to manage site-to-site operations.
- Ensure the YouthLine team meets all required performance measures internally and for contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with the Development team on grant applications and fundraising for the YouthLine program.
- Network and collaborate with local youth serving agencies. Represent YouthLine by communicating positively with those outside the organization.
- Collaborate with the Portland Deputy Director and Program Director on media relations, including representing YouthLine in media interviews.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a related social services field preferred, but open to considering applicants with equivalent education and experience in lieu of a graduate degree.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth and/or family programs
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership, management, and supervisory experience
- Knowledge of best practices for effective youth engagement, development, and mentoring.
- Knowledge of best practices around youth mental health and suicide, including diverse and marginalized populations.
- Knowledge of cultural considerations for working with different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, including especially experience with the diverse cultural experiences, traditions, and histories found in Maui and across Hawai'i
- Proficient with databases and MS Office computer environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Open and receptive to appropriate change within the organization and has the ability to manage and shift priorities as needed to incorporate new approaches, methods, and techniques with the agency. Provides input for change efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Crisis Intervention training and experience - ASIST and safeTALK certification preferred.
- Knowledge of school-focused evidence-based suicide prevention and postvention and mental health models, procedures, and trainings - RESPONSE program, Connect Suicide Postvention, Sources of Strength, and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) preferred
- Innovation: the ability to conceptualize and implement new ideas to improve relationships, services and procedures.
Travel and Schedule Requirements
- Travel may be required throughout Maui County and the state of Hawai'i for meetings, trainings, and outreach.
- This position must be available to work during YouthLine hours of operation, which are currently between 2 pm - 8 pm, including working some weekends, with availability for trainings and meetings during the day.
- This position requires the ability to work from the Hawai'i office locations regularly.
