Job Description:

- The Surgical Technologist functions under the direction of the registered professional nurse.
- Assists the health care team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care.
- Performs duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases and anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other team members.
- Demonstrates an efficient, organized surgical plan for assigned cases.
- Discusses surgical plans with healthcare team members and can troubleshoot instruments and equipment.
- Mentors, precepts, or trains in various modalities and participates in performance improvement initiatives.
- Prepares the operative suite and surgical field, maintaining the sterile field and patient safety.
- Gathers required instruments and supplies, serving as a surgical assistant when needed.
- Assists with inventory, ordering, and stocking operating rooms and perioperative areas.
- Ensures unit compliance with standards at all times.
- Provides relationship-based patient-centered care and verifies procedures with the patient.
- Practices under current clinical standards and upholds health care system policies and procedures.
- Supports evidence-based practice and demonstrates teamwork and collaboration.
- Serves as patient advocate concerning patient care and safety.
- Assists with room preparation, patient transport, and safety measures.
- Participates in process improvement opportunities and collaborates with the healthcare team.
- Maintains a positive attitude and flexibility in assignments.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and team within defined contexts.
- Sets up sterile tables and performs appropriate surgical counts.
- Participates in procedure pauses and applies principles of asepsis.
- Prepares case carts and plans for future procedures.
- Observes patient conditions, reports changes, and adjusts to emergencies.
- Prepares operating room and other areas for receiving patients and maintains supplies.
- Completes all required competencies and provides a positive learning environment.
- Participates in new training and maintains continuing education.
- Supports licensed staff as requested and cares for surgical equipment.
- Ensures organization and cleanliness of the surgical area.
- Assumes responsibility for other assigned duties.
