Description of Work
This position provides Occupational Therapy services to residents diagnosed with neuro-cognitive diagnoses who are medically fragile and cannot be served by a community nursing home. This includes individuals who have significant intellectual and developmental disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury, Alzheimer's, and other Dementias, Huntington's, and Parkinsons, many of whom also have significant medical issues and developmental disabilities with significant physical anomalies which restrict/limit range of motion and fine and gross motor skills. Responsibilities include completing assessments and annual updates related to Occupational Therapy and identifying needs in the areas of positionings, recommending or helping design adaptations that assist residents to remain functional in their environment as they perform self-help skills and activities of daily living, maintain some level of mobility, and is a member of the dysphagia assessment team. The Occupational Therapist (OT) develops treatment serves that improve musculoskeletal and neuromuscular functioning. They are a member of an interdisciplinary team process that develops a Person-Centered Habilitation or Care plan for each resident and ensures it meets the need of the resident. This position provides staff training to direct care staff to implement the correct use of adaptive equipment, life and transfer safely and to produce a better quality of life of the residents who receive their services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Demonstrates knowledge and application of effective Occupational therapy principles, techniques, and methods through the development of effective treatment that improves the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular status with this specialty population.
Demonstrates knowledge and application of sensory modality strategies, and procedures used to treat residents with Neurocognitive Disorders like autism and or dementia.
Develops adaptations for individuals who have limited range of motion and have severe fine and gross motor abilities in this population.
Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with a professional multi-disciplinary team, guardians, and direct care paraprofessionals.
Provides staff training in safe lifting and transfer techniques and the use of adaptations needed to be support residents.
Demonstrates skills and knowledge in person centered application of Occupational Therapy interventions and supports.
Demonstrates skills in working with a Swallow Team (Dietitians, SLP's, and other OT's) to develop successful oral feeding through adaptive equipment and supportive positioning.

Management Preferences
5-years of experience providing Occupational Therapy assessments and intervention strategies, to not only residents who have a broad array of Neurocognitive diagnoses but who also have significant developmental and intellectual delay and have limited verbal skills.
