Job Title: Sr. Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer

Location: San Leandro, CA

Business Unit: Randtron

Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday off.

Primary Function:

The Sr. Spec, Manufacturing Engineer is a senior level professional position requiring strong knowledge of the job area and broad knowledge of project management. Interfaces with Engineering and Production to ensure documentation and processes meet manufacturing requirements. Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence, and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and assemblies. Estimates manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements for new and existing product lines. Designs and implements necessary tooling, jigs, and fixtures in support of assembly and fabrication. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Review new and revised engineering drawings for manufacturability, reliability, quality requirements, and develop manufacturing plans, including cost to manufacture.
  • Must be able to lead and facilitate new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Convert engineering documentation to a form necessary for manufacturing, ensuring accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change control.
  • Write, review, and update operational routing sheets for machining and assembly processes. Generate manufacturing BOMs.
  • Ability to review detail and assembly drawings with both conventional and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures, and tooling using Creo and/or AutoCAD.
  • Provide sustaining production support in resolving problems and improving procedures and processes for production released products.
  • Interface with suppliers as required for process support.
  • Perform various cost analyses for manufacturing process estimates, tool development estimates, and facilities related costs.
  • Design and implement techniques that will increase yield and reduce production costs. Experience with lean manufacturing / 5S techniques is preferred.
  • Prepare office and factory plans and layouts, as required.
  • Serve as a member of Change Control Board (CCB) and Preliminary Review Board (PRB).
  • Conduct audits as required to ensure process capability both within Randtron and at outside supplier.
  • May be responsible for recommending corrective action where EH&S hazards exist.

Education / Experience / Training:
  • Requires a B.S. in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering) with a minimum of six (6) years of prior experience. A master's degree (M.S. or M.E.) with a minimum of four (4) years of prior related experience will also be considered. Candidates without either of the above degrees will be considered with a minimum of ten (10) years of prior related experience performing sustaining engineering activities in an electro-mechanical assembly environment.
  • Requires a full understanding of tool design, knowledge of machining and composites fabrication, and a thorough understanding of assembly processes.
  • Experience with cost estimating is preferred. Ability to interact well with others and demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong knowledge of current applications in the Microsoft Office product family is required.
  • Experience with CAD drawing applications (CREO, Solidworks, or AutoCAD) is required.
  • Experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Manufacturing Execution (MES) or a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system is a plus.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be required to obtain a Security Clearance. The ability to obtain a future Security Clearance is required for the role. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Flexible to work varied shifts, overtime, weekends and travel on occasion.
  • Ability to type and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% or less during a fiscal year.
  • Based upon your job duties, and need to visit different areas within Randtron, you may be exposed to; fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals (well below OSHA and ACGIH exposure guidelines), outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts and/or be part of a hearing conservation program due to noise levels around certain equipment.
  • May be required to move items 25 pounds for distances of up to 25 feet.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.


In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is 94,000-175,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, and schedule type.
