Our Laboratory Services Department uses state of the art equipment, technology and processes to collect and test clinical specimens in order to obtain information about the health of our patients so that our inter-professional teams can diagnose, treat and prevent disease.
Our Medical Laboratory Charge Technologists coordinates the day to day activities of the department by exercising technical expertise within the discipline and acts as a resource person within the Laboratory and Hospital. They will judge the technical validity and reliability of test results and communicate their interpretation by ensuring staff competency and training completion.

Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for conducting and/or monitoring the analysis of a wide range of clinical laboratory test procedures, utilizing a variety of equipment and materials to provide physicians with data for the study, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Performs all routine and more sophisticated laboratory procedures without supervision.
- Ensures all equipment in proper working order, and troubleshoots as required.
- Maintains records/documentation as required.
- Ensures compliance to the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH) standards.
- Maintains an awareness of departmental/Hospital Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
- Assists in the evaluation, development & implementation of new methodologies.
- Maintains an inventory system ensuring the availability of adequate volumes of supplies.
- Acts as a resource person and coordinates competency assessment evaluations.
- Participates in the orientation and training of new and current staff.
- Organizes and prioritizes one's own workload and that of subordinates.
- Participates in related activities in all disciplines upon request.
- Liaises with other Hospital departments and doctors' offices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current registration as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- Minimum 5 years of recent clinical experience in Microbiology.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of previous Supervisory experience in Microbiology or acting as a technical specialist for Microbiology.
- Thorough knowledge of inventory management, method development and evaluation, daily operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and support orientation, teaching and in-servicing programs of staff and students as well as updating technologists/students of any changes in procedures/methodologies.
- Demonstrates excellent computer skills including proficiency with MS office (Word, Excel) and Meditech System.
- Demonstrated ability to enhance quality and achieve compliance with the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH ) requirements.
- Experience in maintaining records and monitoring quality control systems.
- Experience in assisting in the development of new methodology.
- Demonstrates excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with Technologists, Nursing and Medical staff.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Experience in other disciplines an asset.
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
