Position Description
The School Principal is an important member of the District's management team and reports directly to the Superintendent.
Qualifications
- Commitment to maintaining and strengthening the District's quality instructional program.
- Candidates should hold a Master's Degree and hold or qualify for a California Administrative Services Credential
- Effective leadership experience at a significant level in a school district
- In-depth knowledge of California frameworks and curriculum alignment for K-5 schools
- Understanding of and experience with budget management
- Understanding of student attendance, SARB and Truancy Court
- Effective communication skills with individuals and groups
- Experience with a wide range of staff development activities
- Experience with categorical programs, at-risk students and special needs students
- Effective skills to guide problem-solving and decision making
- Experience with multicultural student populations
- Ability to monitor student policy and discipline
- Ability to supervise student and parent extra-curricular activities
- Ability to work with diverse groups of teachers
- Ability to work with District's Administrative Team
- Excellent organizational skills
- Sense of humor
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Continuous Improvement strategies

- Establishes an effective learning climate
- Monitors and supports program implementation for increased student achievement as outlined in the school site plan
- Coordinates tasks in the organization and improvement of instruction
- Establishes and monitors student policies and discipline
- Counseling of individual students as needed
- May participate in extra-curricular activities, including parent activities
- Monitors student attendance
- Evaluates educational programs
- Coordinates, supervises and evaluates staff
- Assists staff and cooperatively works with specialists assigned to the school in planning, organizing and implementing programs at the site
- Prepares and administers school budget
- Maintains a positive relationship between the school and community
