The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the permanent position of Electronics Technician 4 at the Washington Corrections Center located in Shelton, Washington.
Washington Corrections Center (WCC) is located 35 miles west of Olympia, the state capitol. WCC is the Reception and Diagnostic Center, a close-custody facility with the primary responsibility to process, test, and classify all adult male felons sentenced to prison in Washington State. The facility has eight living units and houses approximately 1,500 incarcerated individuals. 600 incarcerated individuals are screened and assessed each month. WCC is also major hub for transfer of incarcerated individuals to and from facilities throughout the state.

Duties
This Senior Level Technician position, under the direction of the Maintenance Specialist 4, plan and executes installation, repair, configuration, maintenance, and repair of PLC controls, telecommunications, cable TV, fire detection/suppression, closed circuit TV, two-way radio, perimeter intrusion detection, access control, public address, and video surveillance/recording systems.
Typical work consists of but not limited to:

- Conduct initial assessment for operation and contact vendor if needed for metal detectors, walk through &handheld, computer operated/programmed, used for security screening - located in multiple areas of institution.
- Conduct initial assessment for operation and contact vender if needed for X-Ray
package screening machines -located in several locations.
- Satellite Television System, (SATV), serving almost 500 televisions, modulators, and
head end equipment.
- Public Address/Intercom Systems, PLC integrated, stand alone, and network -located in multiple locations.
- Incarcerated Individual Entertainment system, FM radio, closed circuit movie
hardware, video projectors consisting of audio and video components.
- Assist Information Technology staff in the integration/maintenance of security
systems.
- Performs recommended Preventative Maintenance, (PMs), and recommends new PMs and or modifying existing PM schedules when necessary.
- Conducts tests and inspections of safety and security systems related to security electronics to insure functionality and adequacy.
- Coordinating installation with supervisor and/or or contractors and staff in the area. Installing cabling as per Telecommunications Distribution Installation Standards, (T.D.I.S.) to include coax, low voltage wiring (48 amps or less), fiber, Cat5 and Cat6.
- Terminating cabling
- Terminate voice lines & providing connection points to Local IT at the 110 block and telecommunication port cover.
- Labeling voice and data terminations.
- Prepares analysis, cost estimates, and reports for supervisor, (when requested)
- Maintains adequate inventory of mission critical parts and materials.
- May perform other duties as required and provide relief to other positions as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from High school or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade; Electrical codes; safety precautions; record keeping.
- Ability to: read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, and sketches; estimate materials and personnel needed to complete project, supervise a crew of staff or I/ls.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to: recognize and repair defects in complex electronic systems, equipment and devices; understand schematic diagrams, instructional manuals, drawings, plans and sketches; plan assignments detailing or rec G ending methods for achieving solutions; analyze field data and evaluate ambient monitoring equipment; prepare reports, maintenance schedules and procedures, and quality control summaries; modify, design and fabricate electronic instrumentation; maintain effective work methods and work schedules
- Five (5) years of experience installing, maintaining, or repairing electrical and/or electronic equipment to include at least one (1) year of experience repairing and testing security and alarm surveillance equipment.
- Full time training in electrical engineering or electronics may be substituted, year for year, for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience, except for one year of experience repairing and testing security alarm and surveillance equipment.
