Job Title: Sonographer
Job Specialty: High Risk OB Ultrasound
Job Duration: Temporary, with the opportunity to become permanent, full-time position (13 weeks)
Shift: Day - 5x8 - 08:00 AM - 04:00 PM, Monday through Friday (No weekend coverage and no on-call duty)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours per week
Experience: Not specified
License: Sonographer license required
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Must-Have: Relevant experience in OB ultrasound preferred
Job Description:
- Ensure two points of patient identification are obtained and that the patient is properly prepared.
- Obtain a relevant patient history and review patient charts for pertinent clinical history, test results, and laboratory data for accurate interpretation of the ultrasound examination.
- Explain examinations to patients, considering their physical and emotional needs, while maintaining ethical standards.
- Complete OB scans effectively and efficiently while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Deliver patient care within the scope of license and training.
- Utilize universal precaution techniques and patient-specific safety techniques.
- Be knowledgeable in the operation of all equipment used during the workday.
- Notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.
- Cooperate with all personnel and promote harmony within the department.
- Maintain effective working relations and communication with departmental and other hospital personnel.
- Execute paperwork and reporting functions as necessary for each patient exam.
- Prepare the equipment, room, and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use.
- Stock and supply room and general department area as needed.
- May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department.
- Acknowledge and participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects in the department.
- Remain flexible in shift coverage situations as necessary.
- Stay up to date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- Participate in education programs and meet state and national requirements for continuing educational credits.
- Transport and transfer patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines.
- Use independent judgment and initiative under pressure in various situations when performing patient exams.
- Perform all other duties as directed.
