Responsibilities
- Motor Design & Development: Design electric motors (DC brushless slotted motors, slotless motors, linear motors and magnetic actuators.) from concept to production, ensuring designs meet performance and efficiency goals. Should be familiar with magnetic design tools such as SPEED, Ansys MotorCad, Jmag Designer, or Altair. Solidworks experience is also required.
- Prototyping & Testing: Develop motor prototypes, perform tests to validate performance, and troubleshoot design issues. Ensure motors comply with industry standards and regulations. DMF is also a requirement.
- Optimization: Optimize motor designs for performance, energy efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness. Focus on sustainable design principles.
- System Integration: Work with mechanical, manufacturing, and control engineers to integrate motors into larger systems and products.
- Technical Drawings & Documentation: Create and interpret technical drawings, motor schematics, and specifications. Maintain detailed engineering documentation for each project.
- Collaboration: Liaise with suppliers, customers, and other engineers to align motor designs with customer needs and industry trends. Knowledge of key suppliers in the motor industry a plus.
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, and testing to ensure projects are completed within budget.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all motor designs pass rigorous testing and meet high-quality standards for safety, performance, and reliability.
- Bom: Ability to interpret technical drawings and bills of material.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical, Master's degree preferred
- Proven experience in the design and development of electric motors, with a strong understanding of motor control systems and electromagnetic principles.
- Proficiency in motor design software (e.g., ANSYS, Motor-CAD, Jmag Designer, Altair, MATLAB/Simulink, SPEED).
- Experience with thermal analysis, motor winding design, and material selection.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on problem-solving and optimization.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and provide clear documentation.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations for motor design and safety.
- Commitment to sustainable engineering practices and energy-efficient designs.
Work Environment:
- Predominately office environment with occasional exposure to the production floor and development lab
- While on the production floor, employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts and may be required to put on
precautionary, protective wear such as safety glasses.
