Summary:
The System Director, RN Pediatric Behavioral Health is a strategic leader responsible for providing system-wide direction, coordination, and evaluation of pediatric focused psychiatric mental health nursing operations across multiple facilities. This role ensures care delivery of high quality, trauma-informed, evidence-based, patient-centered care while driving operational efficiency, innovation, and excellence in nursing. The System Director collaborates closely with executive leadership, clinical staff, and support departments to promote a culture of safety that is committed to provide care in the least restrictive environment possible, promoting both patient autonomy and well-being in a safe, supportive atmosphere for both patients and staff.

Responsibilities:

Maintains key relationships with system leaders, chiefs of service, clinical and administrative directors, internal and external stakeholders, and community partners. Serve as subject matter resource in pediatric psychiatric- mental health nursing both within the system and to external organizations.

Responsible for establishing Brown University Health's pediatric Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing care model using evidence-based practices that promote trauma-informed, least restrictive and person-centered care. Fosters a culture of safety and high reliability through an approach to Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing practice which focuses on a therapeutic environment that promotes trauma-informed, least restrictive, person centered, and evidence-based care.

Standardizes nursing workflows, policies, and procedures across all facilities to ensure a culture of safety and high reliability through consistency and best practices.

Mentors nurse leaders in the development of leadership skills, staff accountability, fiscal accountability, professional development of staff, strategic planning, safe environments, violence prevention, reduction of staff injuries, and restraint/seclusion reduction.

Provides educational and growth opportunities for nursing and behavioral health staff to support leadership development and succession planning.

Responsible for the strategic planning, goal setting, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for pediatric psychiatry/behavioral health service line. Analyzes and reports data, identifies trends and develops action to improve operational efficiency (e.g., throughput, access to care, length of stay, case mix index, administrative necessary days, turnover rates, overtime expenditures, and productivity).

Responsible for departmental budgets and resource allocation, ensuring the appropriate staffing levels, supplies and resource allocation based on patient needs, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

Obtains initial certification and annual re-certification in full safety care level 1 training.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

EDUCATION:

Master's degree in nursing, Health Administration, or related field (Doctorate preferred)

Active RN licensure in the state of practice

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5 years of nursing leadership experience, ideally in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting. with a strong understanding of healthcare regulations (e.g., State and Federal Laws, HIPAA, CMS, The Joint Commission) as related to psychiatric care and treatment.

Strong leadership, team building, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across a large span of control.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises up to25 FTE across the Brown Health system
