Position Highlights
The Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education (GME) plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational mission of the University of Arizona's College of Medicine-Tucson (COM-T) by ensuring the quality and compliance of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited programs.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean/Designated Institutional Official (DIO), the Assistant Dean will collaborate with program directors, faculty, and institutional leaders to advance resident and fellow education, foster professional development, and ensure adherence to ACGME institutional and program requirements and standards.
The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (non-tenure eligible). This position will be at 0.60 FTE and it is expected that the candidate will couple their deanship FTE with one or more of the tripartite mission areas towards a 1.0 FTE.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the Senior Associate Dean/DIO in overseeing the operation and continuous improvement of ACGME-accredited and non-standard training (NST) programs.
- Monitors programs' compliance with ACGME requirements.
- Supports the institution in maintaining accreditation through effective management of the GME office's policies and procedures.
- Serves as a resource and advocate for trainees, addressing concerns related to the learning environment, wellness, and educational programs.
- Assists in the coordination of workshops, retreats, and seminars for trainees to support their professional development.
- Serves as the DIO in the DIO's absence.
- Participates in strategic and operational discussions involving GME with the leadership in the College of Medicine-Tucson, Banner Health, and major participating sites.
- Participates in the leadership team for GME, helping to proactively identify issues and develop alternative solutions related to institutional and program compliance.
- Represents the GME office on relevant institutional or hospital committees and at local, regional, or national conferences.
- Monitors program performance metrics to identify areas or opportunities for improvement.
- Leads or supports institutional initiatives to enhance the educational environment and quality of the GME programs.
Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of GME literature, research, and publication.
- Knowledge of graduate medical education (ACGME) institutional and program requirements.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal communication and time management skills.
- Knowledge of local and national educational and training resources for GME programs.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning, diversity, patient safety, quality improvement and educational innovations.
- Understanding of theunique aspects of the UA/Banner partnership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Faculty Member at the College of Medicine.
- Medical degree (MD or DO), with at least five years of clinical experience.
- Eligible for clinical privileges at B-UMCT.
- Possess unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Arizona.
- Board Certification in chosen specialty.
- Experience leading a team project and/or program.
- Familiarity with ACGME accreditation standards and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ACGME accreditation standards and processes with at least five years of experience as a program director or assistant/associate program director in an ACGME-accredited program and/or five years of experience in GME at the institutional level.
