About the Role:

The Production Shift Lead operates as the first line technical subject matter expert (SME) on shift for day-to-day operations, ensuring that daily goals and objectives are achieved. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally internally with members of the laboratory, bioinformatics and software teams. This position requires strong communication and troubleshooting skills, while also operating hands-on in the lab. This position will report on-site to the Laboratory Manager over the assigned shift. The position may require flexibility to accommodate different shift timings. This is a full-time onsite position with the possibility of flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support laboratory operations.

What You Will Do:
  • Operational Management:
    • Provide on-site technical guidance to personnel performing high-complexity testing during the assigned shift.
    • In coordination with the assigned Laboratory Manager, defines, implements and optimizes shift production operations to successfully achieve assay specific turnaround times with a shared focus on quality.
    • Ensure operational compliance with the production laboratory's Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) programs.
    • Routinely perform clinical and translational research testing in the production laboratory, and flex to support testing for regulated products as necessary.
    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment according to established standard operating procedures.
    • Monitor key quality and efficiency indicators and recognize opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide guidance and leadership in the diagnosis and resolution of production problems with a focus on process improvement in collaboration with laboratory leadership
  • Coordinate with laboratory leadership to develop workflow policies and procedures that improve efficiency without compromising safety or quality
    • Participate in incident response activities relevant to production
    • May serve as a General Supervisor and Laboratory Director delegate per delegation
  • Personnel Management:
    • While direct leadership is not applicable to this role, the Production Shift Leads will support the assigned Laboratory Manager in training, setting schedules, and will provide input as requested to support performance evaluations as they relate to direct observations/interactions during the assigned shift.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Write and revise standard operating procedures as needed.
    • Participate in the identification, documentation, and investigation of all issues when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
    • May act as a trainer for new team members under the direction of the assigned Laboratory Manager.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure completeness, accuracy, and validity of data and on-time delivery of results.
    • Collaborate cross functionally to ensure effective resource utilization, planning, and execution of people, process and products in alignment with global objectives and volume projections.
    • Communicate effectively with coworkers and non-laboratory personnel.
    • Participate in brainstorming sessions and collaborative efforts within a highly interactive work environment.
  • Team
    • Cultivate, build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships within teams and cross-functionally.
    • Operate as a thought leader and hold cross-functional teams accountable to regulatory, quality, scientific and performance standards to ensure the highest quality for sample integrity.
    • Seen as a role model for safety behavior standards and cultural tenets.
    • Serves as a leader from the bench, demonstrating consistency in good lab practices.
  • Other duties as assigned


What You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • 4+ years total laboratory work experience with 2+ years of relevant clinical laboratory work experience in CAP, CLIA, NYSDOH, ISO 13485/15189 environments
  • Knowledge of CLIA/CAP regulations, GCP, ISO15189 and laboratory best practices with experience operating in a high complexity clinical laboratory. Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues effectively through both independent and collaborative execution.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with busy, high-performing colleagues.
  • Experience developing written procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a highly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program needs in real time


Compensation & Benefits:

The expected range for this position is $43.27/hour - $57.69/hour, and is eligible for equity offerings.
