Senior Principal Signal Integrity Engineer
MACOM's High Performance Analog division is searching for a Senior Principal Signal Integrity Engineer. In this capacity, high-level focus will be definition and technical guidance, through deployment, of signal integrity strategies and methodologies. This spans from front-end definition to back-end validation of broadband communications products at data rates up to and beyond 200 Gbps.
Job Description
Drive feasibility analyses at onset of product definition phase. Evaluate and specify electrical characteristics and performance of devices and systems to determine compliance with appropriate regulating standards.
Take cradle-to-grave ownership of products through hand-off to product engineering for production launch. This encompasses efforts to find limits of product performance as well as debugging.
Perform detailed modeling and electrical analysis of silicon-to-silicon physical interconnects. This covers all aspects of the physical interconnect in a system context, including chip-scale to large-scale packaging, passive connectors and components, and multi-conductor transmission lines.
As part of device-level modeling efforts, create, verify, and document IBIS-AMI models for external customer use.
Define and carry out experiments to validate modeling methodologies and to establish correlation of such to empirical data.
Design, develop, and document interconnect solutions for internal hardware needs as well as for customer hardware reference designs.
Identify techniques and methodologies for modeling and measurement of devices and systems. Actively lead evaluations of these.
Requirements
An ideal candidate will have a PhD degree and 6+ years of direct experience. The minimum requirement is an MSEE degree with 8+ years of pertinent experience. BSEE will be considered depending on specific relevant background and with 15 years minimum experience.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. The candidate must possess experience in creating and executing detailed yet effective technical presentations to internal groups as well as to key customers.
Proven debug skills of devices and systems is paramount to success for this position.
A strong understanding of basic circuit and transmission line theory is essential, as is familiarity with and a working knowledge of concurrent time and frequency-domain methods of analysis and characterization.
Programming experience is required in Matlab and C++.
Programming experience is desired with languages such as Linux shell, perl, TCL, etc
Expert-level knowledge and experience with 3D electro-magnetic field simulators such as Ansoft HFSS, with proven ability to create models of usable bandwidth to a minimum of 100 GHz is required.
In-depth knowledge of circuit simulation tools such as Cadence IC Craftsman, and Agilent ADS (or Ansys Designer) is a must.
Working experience is required in Agilent SystemVue system-level simulator. Equivalent experience with Mathworks SimuLink is helpful.
Candidate should have extensive experience defining and setting up experiments, as well as collecting measurement data using TDR, VNA, BERTs, DCAs/oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
