Waypoint's leadership team is seeking a dynamic Development Director to lead our fundraising initiatives and drive strategic growth. This role requires a visionary leader with a proven track record in securing funding and building strong relationships with donors. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, a strong background in nonprofit operations, fundraising, and financial reporting, as well as the ability to inspire a team while implementing innovative fundraising strategies. Additionally, the role involves overseeing a small team of two staff members, offering guidance on annual giving, database management, and gift processing. Essential Responsibilities:
  • In partnership with the CEO, the development director is responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive, strategic fundraising program for charitable revenue and provides leadership and education to the board of trustees in the pursuit of philanthropic goals.
  • In addition to personally managing a portfolio of several major donors, stewarding existing relationships and the identification of prospective individual and corporate donors are a priority.
  • Experience in building and growing a culture of philanthropy, knowledge of current and evolving trends in fundraising, and proven success in securing major gifts from individuals and the business community are a must. As an ambassador of the agency, the development director is engaged with a wide variety of stakeholders and requires the ability to convey the agency's core purpose to diverse groups with confidence and diplomacy.
  • Effectively leading the development department by encouraging their contributions and escalating their efforts to the next level in a professionally supportive environment.
  • Motivate and lead the team with dynamic ideas and efficient processes to ensure organization funding goals are achieved and maximized through exceptional relationship building and community partnerships.
  • Effective interdepartmental coordination is crucial to be successful in this role, along with the ability to create positive relationships to secure internal support and commitment to the program's philanthropic initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field, master's preferred
  • Experience: 7-10 years of prior work experience in non-profit operations required while development and fundraising experience is preferred.
  • Ability to be a strategic leader capable of bringing the agency to the next level of philanthropy
  • CFRE International certification is desired
  • Successful criminal check; No history of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
