Position Description

The Instructor in the Information Technology Division at Wake Technical Community College teaches non-degree courses, develops curriculum, and assists with the coordination of instructional activities for adult learners in Workforce Continuing Education.

Flexibility is required to accommodate teaching schedules including day, evening, and occasional weekends for on-campus or online instruction for Wake County.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.

*Teaches information technology courses using a variety of instructional techniques to enhance adult student learning, designed to engage, enhance practical knowledge and skills, and meet course objectives effectively

*Develops and continuously update curriculum, lesson plans, learning management system (LMS) and teaching materials in alignment with industry standards, technological advancements, and relevance to current IT workforce requirements

*Assesses student performance through various methods, including a combination of practical, performance-based, analytics, and testing to ensure course outcomes are met and provide targeted feedback that addresses the specific needs of students

*Maintains accurate and timely records of student attendance, progress, course materials, virtual labs, and other documentation as needed and required

*Assists with the recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and supervision of adjunct faculty as needed, ensuring high-quality instruction and adherence to college-approved curriculum or credentialing agency standards

*Provides student consultation and support during designated office hours, assisting in student recruitment, retention, and success, including non-academic guidance or referrals

*Collaborates with internal and external college stakeholders in support of established goals, ensuring the timely completion of activities, including agreed-upon deliverables

Contributes to community and employer outreach to establish and maintain relationships

Engages in professional development activities to remain current with the latest IT trends and advancements, integrating this knowledge into teaching practices and sharing with peers and students

Supports departmental activities, including class scheduling and event representation at open houses, career fairs, and other assigned events, based on departmental needs

Participates in committees, as needed
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong ability to present complex information clearly and engagingly to a diverse student body

Excellent organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively under varying demands

Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching methods and materials based on student needs and technological changes

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, suitable for mentoring, supervising peers, and advising students

Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including day and evening shifts, across various Wake County locations, and occasional Saturday hours, if needed
Minimum Requirements:Associate's degree

Two years of teaching experience

Five years of relevant work experience in one of the following IT-related fields: Cybersecurity, Networking Technology, or Programming.

Bachelor's degreeAdditional experience in any of the following IT-related fields: Business Analytics, Computer Hardware/Software Repair, Database Management, Web Development, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Technology, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), or Quantum Computing

Experience teaching in a higher education setting

Prior involvement in community college or continuing education programs
