The Position

The Adler Planetarium seeks a Director of Information Technology to join our dynamic team on Chicago's Museum Campus. The Director will take an organizational-wide view of the museum's information technology needs, both hardware and software, with a specific emphasis on long-term planning and policy. This role will focus on providing technical direction and resource capacity to the four-member IT team, which in turn serves the broader role of supporting business units in the museum. This person will work closely with their peers to determine compliance, threats, and opportunities in creating a long-term sustainable technology strategy. This individual will also be responsible for:

  • Work with peers and departmental technology experts to create a long-term sustainable strategy, considering technology deficits, risks, opportunities, emerging technologies, and compliance. Design new workflows and collaborate with departments on digital transformation.
  • Develop a future-proof policy around standards, replacement and migration, cybersecurity, AI, and other risks
  • Provide hands-on support and guidance as needed in the rollout of hardware or software implementation
  • Promote a data-based decision-making culture


The Work Schedule

The typical work schedule for this position is 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Hours will vary, with two evenings a week likely. Flextime and telecommuting options are available.

The Compensation & Benefits (Full-Time)

Base Pay Range: $110,000 - $146,759.55/yr

The Person

This position requires experience managing and motivating technology teams, working cross-departmentally, quickly learning, and adapting to various technologies and technology environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least ten (10) years of hands-on work experience in an information technology field
  • Versed in network cluster architecture, hybrid on-premise computing and cloud computing, and enterprise systems deployment with the capacity to perform heuristic analysis to diagnose and troubleshoot


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with developing and adhering to departmental budgets
  • At least five (5) years managing teams
  • Versed in technology policy development and risk management
