The College of the Environment has an exciting opening for an Associate Director for Development. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Associate Director for Advancement (ADOA) is responsible for assisting in the planning, strategy-setting and execution of philanthropic activities for the College of the Environment. They will focus on increasing private support - for current use, endowment and capital purposes - for the benefit of the College's students, faculty, staff and programs.

This role will work closely with the Senior Director for Advancement, the Associate Dean for Advancement, and University Advancement and unit colleagues to identify, engage and solicit prospective major gift donors. The ADOA will oversee the fundraising program for one or more academic departments.

What You Will Do:

Frontline Fundraising (60%)
Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects with an emphasis on top 25 prospects. Develop and implement an engagement, solicitation and stewardship strategy for each assigned prospect, with an emphasis on lead prospects for emerging campaign initiatives.
Work closely with unit colleagues as well as colleagues in Regional and International Giving, Principal Gifts, Planned Giving, and Corporate & Foundation Relations to prepare and execute engagement and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects.
Partner with the Corporate and Foundation Relations team to frame the strategy, solicitation and stewardship of philanthropic grants aligned with key College areas.
Keep accurate and complete records using the UW's donor database and ensure donors receive appropriate and timely acknowledgements for their gifts.
Prepare written and verbal proposals, case statements, concept/informational materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations and other materials needed to secure gifts and grants.

Strategy Development (20%)
Provide strategic leadership and support to assigned academic units, including designing and implementing strategies and efforts to sustain and increase major gift and alumni support.
Coordinate the participation of administrators, academic leaders, volunteers and development staff in fundraising strategies, efforts and events.
Develop and implement strategies to engage diverse communities and individuals, including volunteer opportunities and cultivating private support.

Program Development and Management (20%)
Create an annual personalized work plan for accomplishing specific goals and objectives in coordination with the College's articulated goals and priorities. Provide regular reports noting progress and challenges.
Participate in the improvement and development of policies and procedures relating to the Advancement program.
Collaborate with the College's Advancement colleagues, including the Marketing & Communications team, in the creation of marketing materials targeting a diverse range of constituents, with emphasis on major gift prospects and opinion leaders.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible experience in institutional development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:
Fundraising experience, preferably in a higher education setting. Experience in securing major gifts and grants that support environmental science and policy initiatives is a plus.
General knowledge of planned giving options (e.g. charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, complex outright gifts involving real estate and testamentary commitments).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

What You Can Expect:
Some evening and weekend hours are necessary, on short or limited notice.
Frequent local travel expected.
