POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Eric Jay Rosser, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS for INTEGRATED CO-TEACH (ICT) CLASSES

QUALIFICATIONS:
New York State Certified in Students with Disabilities, Elementary (B-2, 1-6)
Candidates must submit a Frontline application to be considered for appointment

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Building Principal and Executive Director for Students with Exceptionalities, the Special Education Teachers develop and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows NYS mandates due process procedures and functions as IEP manager to assigned students.

DUTIES:

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provides evidence-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP;
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques;
  • Employs various teaching techniques through specially designed instruction, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals;
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to meet their IEP goals;
  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with MTSS and other building team members in developing instructional goals, strategies and support plans for students;
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP and completes all required IEP development;
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in inclusive practices and effective classroom management;
  • Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed;
  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations;
  • Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
  • Establishes and maintains effective classroom management systems;
  • Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student engagement, responsibility, cooperation and respect consistent with district policies and procedures and supports development of age-appropriate social-emotional skills;
  • Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptions, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities;
  • Oversees and ensures delivery of all required testing accommodations as detailed in each student's IEP.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to meeting the qualifications of employment, preferred candidates should have the following knowledge skills and abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education;
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities and use of specially designed instruction to support teaching;
  • Thorough knowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior;
  • Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public;
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program;
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including the use of technology to individualize instruction.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate.

SALARY:
In accordance with the PPSTA contract, $64,681-$100,293
