JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Institutional Grants and Foundation Relations is a key member of the Development team at Burke Rehabilitation and will build relationships with national, regional and local foundations, corporations, and government agencies to secure funding in support of Burke. As a member of the development team, the Director will be responsible for conducting a full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage foundation and government proposals and corporate solicitations as well as cultivate donor relationships with the principals of foundations, heads of corporations and selected board members. The Director's position is a highly visible one, requiring the Director to be an outstanding representative of Burke and an astute communicator in articulating Burke's needs to the greater community.

WORK PERFORMED:
  • Secure revenue from a range of institutional funders including government agencies, private foundations and corporations to support the continued growth of Burke Rehabilitation and the initiatives identified in the strategic plan
  • The Director will be responsible for building upon the previous success of the department and will be a key contributor in building the strategy in partnership with the Associate VP of Development.
  • This role requires the ability to synthesize data and complex information
  • Prioritize external funding opportunities by balancing factors such as institutional need, grant size and impact and available resources
  • Grant prospecting, stewardship, reporting and implementation
  • Identify and develop a pipeline of foundation, corporate and private funders through research and relationship building in concert with external consultants
  • Cultivate, solicit, steward and manage relationships with a portfolio of funders
  • Facilitate external grant reporting and internal implementation in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of best practices for local, state and national trends and statistics
  • Provide timely reports that communicate the status of grant-funded projects
  • Serve as the senior writer for Development
  • Develop and maintain a library of grant opportunities
  • Catalog and track in-progress and submitted grant proposals and applications
  • Record final grant awards in Raiser's Edge
  • Work with Finance Department to ensure all reimbursable expenses are tracked, allocated and reconciled appropriately.
  • Collaborate with hospital staff, administration and board members on funding needs and assist clinical staff members in assembling grant materials and content.
  • Collaborate with Development team on event sponsorships
  • Work directly with the Associate VP to ensure all fundraising goals are met.
  • Be actively involved in the Burke community to better understand the culture of the institution.
  • Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital's policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID.
  • Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke.
  • Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline.
  • Personally adheres to Burke C.A.R.E.S. philosophy by demonstrating compassion, accountability, respect and exceeding expectations through service excellence.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: BA or BS in a related field and 5+ years of related experience (preferably in a healthcare setting) with a proven track record of success in producing a high volume of complex proposals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must have a highly organized work style and the ability to manage multiple projects. Must have ability to work individually on projects as well as be a team player; have a strong work ethic. Must be organized and meticulous with great attention to detail and be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects. Excellent communication skills (oral, listening and written); high E.Q. to manage relationships at various levels. Ability to interact with all levels of staff, board members and donors. Flexible style to match donor's requirements with the needs of Burke. Customer service/Service Excellence is a primary focus within the department and to external constituents.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Full time in officeMust be able to carry supplies to meetings and events; ability to tour potential donors around the facility.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be willing to travel and work evenings/weekends as necessary.
