Job Summary
The Senior Data Analyst - Financial will lead data review and ledger maintenance efforts, including identifying and addressing data inconsistencies and outliers for finance, accounting and headcount data sets. The Senior Data Analyst - Financial will identify and correct data discrepancies between different applications and will act as the liaison between Finance, Human Resources, and Departments to confirm headcount data is accurate. This position will also manage the development of policies and procedures to leverage business, financial, and headcount data into insights for decision making. Increases awareness and access to data sources, engages in process redesign, and develops dashboards and reports. Supports the Chief Financial Officer, Budget Director, and Deputy Budget Director in identifying opportunities, creating proposals and developing project plans to assist in data usage, and improve the MBTA's data integrity.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains the headcount ledger and identifies and corrects discrepancies between HRIS, HRCMS, and FMIS data sets.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the nuances of departmental job codes and hiring processes and is able to make recommendations to the Budget Director to improve data sets and data entry practices.
  • Confer and partner with cross-functional staff to assure smooth function of newly implemented systems or procedures.
  • Audit budget and financial data to identify and correct discrepancies to ensure departments are in compliance with MBTA accounting policies and practices.
  • Advise departmental managers and senior staff on trends, issues of concern, and opportunities to ensure cost-effectiveness and conform to Authority policies, procedures and goals.
  • Create financial projections for ad-hoc initiatives and projects as assigned.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to Senior Management as assigned.
  • Assist with the creation of the MBTA's annual budget and rolling financial projections, specifically data dissemination, recompilation, and automation of manually processes.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, be proactive and positive and demonstrate ability to be self-motivated and manage multiple priorities.
  • Organize and maintain project files and databases.
  • Implement a comprehensive management plan for each project and hold regular stakeholder meetings to keep all stakeholders updated on project progress.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Develop manuals, user guides, and update policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business or related technical field.
Four (4) years of related work experience providing data analytics, reporting, process improvement, project management.
Experience with Tableau Desktop and Prep Builder.
Experience with ERM systems, such as, PeopleSoft.
Detailed analytical abilities.
Strong experience in user testing and project management.
Ability to manage moderate sized projects and cross functional teams.
Ability to collaborate across complex organizations.
Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint applications.
The ability to pass the MBTA Advanced Excel and PowerPoint test.
Effective organizational, multitasking, time management and quantitative skills.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to speak to large audiences and facilitate meetings.
Handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Substitutions Include

  • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement.
  • An associate degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement.
  • A master's degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience.
  • A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in mathematics, statistics, data analytics, or related field.
