Software Engineer, Golang, Infrastructure

We are looking for a backend developer with experience in Golang, microservices architectures, and Kubernetes (K8s) to join the infrastructure engineering team at Tesla. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing scalable, high-performance backend services that support our self-service infrastructure platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to build robust APIs, optimize system performance, and ensure reliability in an on-premise private cloud environment. A key aspect of this role involves working with bare metal server provisioning and inventory management, ensuring seamless automation and orchestration of physical infrastructure in Tesla Datacenters, and integrating our provision platform with other self-hosted infrastructure tools like Netbox. This role is ideal for a skilled, mid-level backend engineer who is eager to take ownership of complex problems and contribute meaningfully to architecture decisions. This person will be expected to have a relentless focus on delivery and iteration, with a compulsion for testing code and a passion for building performant and scalable services. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Golang
• Architect, deploy, and manage microservices in Kubernetes (K8s) environments
• Implement and optimize scalable, high-performance distributed systems
• Work with bare metal server provisioning tools to automate infrastructure deployment
• Develop RESTful and gRPC APIs to interact with infrastructure components
• Ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of backend systems
• Debug and resolve production issues, optimizing system performance as needed
• Write clean, well-documented, tested, and maintainable code
• Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologies

Requirements

• Minium 3 years of backend development experience, with at least 2 years of Golang experience
• Strong understanding of microservice architectures and distributed systems
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and containerized environments
• Experience with bare metal server provisioning, including PXE boot, IPMI, and tools like metal3, Ironic, or Foreman
• Proficiency in RESTful API design and OpenAPI. Experience with gRPC is a plus
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka / RabbitMQ), and caching strategies (e.g., Redis)
• Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code working with Terraform and Helm
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently within a team

Expected Compensation

$111,200 - $433,680/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
