Responsibilities
Key contributor to the design, specification, selection, erection, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical and power systems.
Oversight of the numerous outsource vendors that support Messer Americas in the design, specification, selection, erection, commissioning, and troubleshooting
This position is expected to be a team member supporting active projects, including:
Ability to select and specify electrical systems
Provide detailed drawing review and feedback to equipment OEM's
Critical supplier design audits of power equipment
Ability to manage assigned goals in a project from specification process, through design and manufacture, construction and installation, commissioning, and resolution of field issues
Develop, plan, and implement QA/QC plans related electrical checkout.
Provide knowledge and expertise from plant operating environment to improve best practices
Support Messer Americas with significant operational issues of equipment and provide assistance in plant commissioning and troubleshooting.
Support and execute projects in multiple geographies as the business requires
Work with contract resources to support our various projects
Contribute to the development and maintenance of Messer Group E & I standards
Required Skills
Knowledge of controls and protection systems
Experience with industrial gas equipment such as compressors, blowers, heaters, and motors; experience with project management related methodologies, including cost control, planning, and scheduling, as well as quality control, and assessments.
Proficiency developing and evaluating complex engineering projects; and proficiency with Autocad software
Proven experience in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of low/medium/high voltage substations, switchgear, transformers, motors, distribution systems and associated protection and support equipment
Proven experience in electrical short circuit analysis, relay protection settings & coordination, power quality analysis, high voltage motor starting schemes and analysis, hazardous area classification and lightning protection
Proven effectiveness at working independently to trouble shoot electrical issues, identify problem components and interfaces, and execute effective and efficient solutions to restore critical and needed plant control functions
General expertise in large high voltage motors and related control systems preferred
Experience in the development/review of engineering standards and evaluation of equipment from a technical standpoint.
Ability to read, interpret, comprehend, and comment to OEM technical documents and drawing.
General knowledge of controls and protection systems
Ability and interest to stay up to date with industrial practice
Ability to work comfortably as a team member and an independent contributor
Ability to think through technical issues while working independently and remotely
Execution of improvement projects (re-rates, upgrades, etc.)
Train plant personal on important aspects of E & I systems.
Ability to support, develop, and maintain relationships with outside specialist consultants / engineering firms
Knowledge of relevant industry standards
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Electrical Engineering degree is required
5+ years of relevant experience Engineering and Troubleshooting instrument and control systems
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Industrial Gases or petrochemical projects is a plus
