The Dayton VA Medical Center has a proud heritage of providing high quality health care since 1867 to those who have served our country. We are a state of the art teaching facility serving Veterans more than 150 years. With the latest technological innovations and highly trained staff, the Dayton VA Medical Center is health care of today. The Dayton VA Medical Center provides comprehensive health care, which includes Acute, Community Living Center, and Residential Care. The ambulatory care program is provided through a variety of clinics including a primary care program designed to assure that we offer an atmosphere of friendly, personal and individualized patient care. Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) are located in Lima, Middletown, and Springfield, Ohio along with Richmond, Indiana. The CBOCs offer a complete array of diagnostic, rehabilitative, and therapeutic programs and services using state of the art technology to treat the total patient and ensure the Veteran continuity of care.

Radiation Oncology Physician - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
  • The Radiation Oncology Physician provides on-site, services, including evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care for inpatient and outpatient cancer patients.
  • Manage both curative and palliative treatment plans, ensuring the application of evidence-based practices.
  • Provide patient consultations, pre-treatment evaluations, and develop goal-oriented radiation treatment plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Utilize advanced radiation modalities including IMRT, IGRT, and Stereotactic Radiotherapy in alignment with ACR and other national guidelines.
  • Document all patient interactions, treatment plans, and outcomes in the VA electronic health record system (CPRS).
  • The Radiation Oncology Physician performs comprehensive evaluations and physical exams, reviewing patient history, radiographic studies, and lab results to determine appropriate treatment plans.
  • Discuss the treatment plan with the patient, ensuring informed consent is obtained and documented.
  • Provide ongoing treatment management, including weekly examinations, monitoring therapy for side effects or complications, and adjusting treatment as necessary.
  • Provide patient education regarding potential side effects, symptom management, and when to seek further medical attention.
  • Develop radiation treatment plans, including prescribed dose, treatment site, and organs at risk (OAR) for radiation injury.
  • The Radiation Oncology Physician ensures each patient is seen for a follow-up examination within 30-60 days after the completion of radiation therapy to assess treatment response and any side effects.

Radiation Oncology Physician - REQUIREMENTS
  • Shall have MD/DO, or graduated radiation oncology residency.
  • Must be board-certified physicians in radiation oncology from the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
  • Must have current license to practice medicine in any state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Shall have five (5) years of clinical experience in radiation oncology excluding residency.
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification certified by the American Heart Association (AHA).
