Job Summary
The Director of Telehealth and Virtual Care provides technology leadership for the development, implementation, operation, and support of infrastructure to enable virtual and remote care at UCSF Health. At present, virtual and remote care at UCSF Health includes:
Video Visits with patients, scheduled and unscheduled, using the enterprise electronic health record (Epic) and the enterprise video conferencing platform (Zoom) Online Second Opinions using a third-party software and logistics platform Remote specialty consultation between inpatient settings, both within and beyond UCSF Health Virtual care programs involving asynchronous remote patient monitoring, using both the enterprise EHR and third-party capabilities
In addition to these existing programs, the Director of Telehealth and Virtual Care will provide technology leadership in the strategic assessment, selection, development, and deployment of new virtual care programs, including identifying strategic opportunities, evaluating and selecting technology vendors, and collaborating with clinical operations leadership in the deployment and sustainment of new clinical programs.
The Director of Telehealth and Virtual Care collaborates closely with partners throughout Health IT, and with ambulatory, inpatient, and ancillary clinical leadership and operations in achieving these goals.
The Director of Telehealth and Virtual Care hires, develops, and manages a team of technology professionals to achieve these goals, and oversees budget, staffing, and resource allocation in their area.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $144,200 - $350,000 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a clinical subject, healthcare informatics, or related area and / or equivalent combination of experience / training
- 7+ years of relevant progressive experience Extensive experience with the Epic electronic health record and the Zoom teleconferencing platform
- Considerable experience negotiating contracts with health information systems vendors
- Thorough knowledge of telehealth and virtual care systems, concepts, policies, principles, best practices, methodologies, technologies, budgeting, design, deployment, quality assurance, security issues, and regulations
- Thorough knowledge of healthcare information technology, and relevant clinical information systems, with a strong understanding of the application of computational tools to enhance and improve clinical practice
- Excellent skills in strategic planning, building staff competencies, organizing operations, and fiscal management
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and collaboration across departments for effective problem solving, conflict resolution, support for organizational values, and consistent achievement of objectives
- Excellent analytical, and critical-thinking, organizational, and business process optimization skills, with the ability to quickly troubleshoot problems, and apply complex analytics to identify and implement effective solutions
- Excellent ability to collaborate with clinical operations, clinical leaders, senior management within and outside of IT, and other executive-level staff
- Excellent communications skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of staff and management, and cultivate a strong commitment to efficiency, functionality, and quality customer service
- Excellent ability to develop and implement objectives, goals, budgets, strategic plans, policies, and priorities, and to measure and evaluate operations in conjunction with them
